How good is now Dr. Web ? because I want to buy it

About 10 years ago I used dr. web in my pc, but now I don't know how good it is. (security space).

 

It's quite good. I use it on two of my computers, and got some great deals which allowed multiple year purchases on both. I have over 800 days of subscription on both licenses. The time on the full scan has improved with this version 11, but of course this also has to do with the processing speed of the computer. With an Intel Core I7 the scan finishes in about two hours. Protection is very good. Some say the web filter is a bit aggressive, and perhaps it is. Overall, though, quite solid.

Thanks for the answers, Moose World is interesting what you say about ransomware, and I searched some information at Dr.Web and they say that they are one of the best to give better results about cryptolockers, even they have a manual to configure they product for better results, I downloaded and I am going to read it. here is the link:

I don't know about the AV, but the HIPS is quite bad.

 

AFAIK they don't participate in any tests like AV-test or AV-comparatives.

About 10 years ago, Dr Web was considered a very good choice as an AV; lightweight, great heuristics and cleaning abilities. It was also tested on the main sites.

Nowadays, IME, SpIDer Gate for web protection can be a little heavy and too sensitive and although the AV part continues to run very light on most systems and has a number of "new" protective techniques, its recent lack of proper testing and its still slow scanner are drawbacks.

As mentioned above, you can pick up cheap licenses now but IMO, there are much better free and retail alternatives to Dr Web nowadays. But no harm in giving it a whirl as a trial.

 

Dr web has some good protection capabilities but it is quite heavy. I would rather go with something else. Nut you have to try for yourself. Try something like webroot linked to a strong firewall and eset antivirus

 

In a thread I read recently, Dr. Web, Trend, BD2017 Beta and Mcafee Cloud AV is the only 4 which completely prevented a new ransomware from encrypting any file. Many other AVs kill the ransomware after it encrypts some files, which is a bit too late.

 

Any updates on dr web is IT good/light?

 

I recently tried Dr Web Security Space again during this week and found some improvements; memory usage is down, Spidergate seems less sensitive and the express scanner is relatively fast now. The real-time Monitor is still very light in performance.

Relatively cheap to buy but with the quality of some of the free AVs available now it would be difficult to recommend it.

 

still to heavy imo. it is lighter then in the past but much heavier then say eset, avast or avira

 

What about the HIPS? Last time I checked it was pretty bad, it didn't even have an option to make rules.

 

It works fine here, I had somekind of rare file encription here , after that I installed dr. web and the encription disappeared, it is very light, I'm happy with it. The only problem here is that it takes too much resources when it makes a full scan.

 

ehh hips is still not great imo. better then before but still only a bit above average imo. not nearly as good as some others hips wise.

 

In the good old days, Blackcat & I were avid fans of the good Doctor. I sincerely hope he makes a comeback -- I always liked the little spider on my task bar.

 

I would put my money elsewhere personally.

No. I use Zemana Anti-Malware.

 

DRWEB used to be the best damn antivirus back in the early to mid 2000's. All the way up to version 4.44, they were light, had great detection and excellent heuristics. They had some of the best test scores around. After the beautiful version 4.44 was the dreaded version 5. This is where things fell apart. The simple/sleek GUI was completely overhauled (in a bad way) and the AV became slow in every way. Back then, I was fearless with that deadly green spider in my tray. I would surf the web without a care in the world. Nowadays, I have sadly moved on to Nod32. The creation of version 5 was one of the saddest days in my life. RIP DRWEB.
