No matter how many times I "optimize" my SYSTEM drive in Win 10 - it's still 19% Fragmented and recommends to be optimized again. Is there any way to fix this annoyance and optimize the SYSTEM drive? Searched online and couldn't find a solution. Should I be using a 3rd party defrag program instead of Win 10s? If so, what is currently the best FREE program out there for Win 10?
Birdman, Forget it as it's not important to have it 100% defragged. It only contains booting files. It isn't your OS partition. Can you post a screenshot of Disk Management?
I would say, that the problem is, you have it divided into 2 parts. System has 500 MB by default. Only deleting them and creating new one would do.
I had a similar problem and in my case the solution was to delete{1} the "Delivery Optimization Files" which was a few GB big, after i delete the files the % of fragmentation was zero. {1}: The easiest, at least for me, method to delete these files was either with Windows Disk Cleanup advance settings or with CCEnhancer (Carefull with this one)
be carefull with Vopt - dont know SSD! at least it is better not to care about fragmentation, in special with SSD. if you want to delete slack or junk use the drive cleaner from windows -> properties of each drive -> disk cleanup https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17421/windows-free-up-drive-space
1. what needs defragmentation - whether fragmented files or free space, or system files? 2. I think (only think, because since you have not told what you have did till now) that there is a need to defragment your free space, and/or system files. 3. The SSD drive does not need any defragmentation never, may use only consonsolidate free space, but it is not necessary; 3. There are only two or three defragmentation programs, which is completely reasonable to use, all the rest do not do nothing good, but only turns on the Windows built-in defragmentation system and have different look. And finally. If you have a HDD drive, then use regular defragmentation ainul this drive for the OS and boot files are installed, the rest use the "Consolidate free space." If You have SSD drive - do not defragment it never, if don't want destroy it at all. SSD drive not allow to defragment nothing.
