Currently I'm using YTD Video Downloader, and it's pretty good. But it annoys me that it can't download all videos on YouTube. Probably because Google is trying to block it, I freaking hate this! But what about other downloaders, do they work better? In the link you can find the most popular ones:

I am using clipgrab for many months now and it's working great. But be sure to download the portable version , the installer one has a lot of crapware

Thanks, I just checked it out with the help of Sandboxie. I noticed that it used 74MB of diskspace, and it had high CPU usage with a lot of disk activity going on for no reason. Not a good start, so I think I will pass on this one.

    Have you already tried IDM?
It works very well under Chrome and Youtube. You have choices for different qualities.

I use Format Package Pro and MediaHuman YouTube Downloader. They are both paid products which I got as giveaways. By default, Format Package, has an app which monitors the clipboard and will open Format Package whenever the url for a YouTube video is copied to the clipboard.

I don't know if it might be because it ran under SBIE's supervision, because I have also seen this behavior with SYLoader. But a general rule of thumb is: if it acts strangely inside the sandbox, I'd rather avoid it.

Keepvid seems to be way too bloated, it installs quite a lot of .exe files, this can never be a good sign. The good news is that 4k Video Downloader seems to be working smoothly and is able to download videos were YTD fails. So the YTD developers are not doing a good job.

I'm not willing to pay for these type of apps. But MediaHuman seems to have a nice GUI.

To everyone who voted for IDM: It's not my cup of tea, I'm not into "full fledged" downloaders that also integrate with browsers.

It works correctly in FF, but not in Vivaldi. It comes in handy when standalone download tools can not download certain videos.

Wonderfox Hd Video Converter Pro does that very well, even behind corporate firewalls.

I prefer not to pay either. YouTube downloaders are often available for free as giveaways. If you keep an eye on Giveaway Radar which lists the giveaways from all the major giveaway sites, you will find video downloaders from time to time.

Format Package Pro has been updated and is now free. It is now called iFun Video Converter.
It's worth a look, as it works really well. I'm quite impressed that when Format Package opened after I copied a YouTube URL to clipboard, it informed me of the update, which it automatically downloaded and installed, and also uninstalled Format Package, after I confirmed that I wanted to update. Also, as the name suggest, it's a video converter too.

Thanks will check it out. At the moment, YTD and 4k Video Downloader are my favorites.

How could anything surpass Internet Download Manager?
    - multi-resolution & format choices, multi-threaded, multi-filetype capable,

not to mention the capacity of the Queu to dL "Later",
or dL like crazy whilst you sleep :)

I checked it out, it's too bloated and even tries to install a service with high privileges, way too risky.

I already explained, I'm personally more interested in simple tools that are build to download videos from YouTube and other sites. IDM is more of an all-round downloader, not my thing. If I would use one, it would probably be something like VSO Downloader.

I prefer extensions, websites, or portable apps over installed apps. This is what I use:

Extensions: (Palemoon/Firefox): Youtube MP3 Podcaster 3.9.0 (yes it does video too), DownloadHelper 4.9.24.1-signed
    Websites: Savedeo
    Portable apps: YoutubeDownloaderHD

The two Palemoon extensions seem to work for the majority of websites I encounter.

Savedeo used to (IIRC) have an ad overlay before you could click on the download links (which was easily disabled by blocking scripts from savedeo.com) but testing now on a vanilla firefox they've seemed to have replaced that with a popup. The only disadvantage I notice of blocking the scripts from savedeo.com is that you won't see the download size of each resolution available until you attempt to download a file.

I haven't needed to use YoutubeDownloaderHD in a long time, but it's a small (28mb for portable folder) and simple program. In the past they've updated it quickly (within days) of youtube updates designed to break such programs. You can simply load multiple instances in order to download multiple videos at the same time.

I use "Download YouTube Videos as MP4" for downloading from YouTube, that's as simple as it gets. You dont feel the addon at all. In the rare occasions I want to download from somewhere else, I install Video Downloadhelper in a sandbox, use it and delete the sandbox.

This site has some good scripts you can use with a script manager extension: http://isebaro.com/?ln=en

The one you want is probably SaveTube. ViewTube will do the same thing, but it also gives you more options for playback.
