With the Microsoft Windows 10 Anniversary Update today, August 2, the new Win 10 Defender provides Limited Periodic Scanning to Provide Additional Malware Protection even if having another AV. https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com...-10-to-provide-additional-malware-protection/
It only works whey your pc is idle and not always, maybe once per week or 2. It's not a real time scanner. I think is a good idea to have it active, MS can soon have the a huge user base for their cloud
Norton / Symantec recommend disabling the Limited Periodic Scanning. https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v118532580_EndUserProfile_en_us
LOL what they are going to say? that WD is better than norton and it's free? Taking into account that norton doesn't catch the 100% it can't be redundant. Conflicting notification and messaging? this must be something new in the AV industry
Avira automatically switches off Windows Defender when installing, I wouldn't be surprised if that were extended to this new feature of WD in the future. Whether it is added security, I don't know, but most modern AVs don't like company...
Been using Norton for the last four years, and the windows malicious software removal tool, that is part of windows updates, has never once been in conflict with Norton. Now all of a sudden it's bad juju. I don't buy it.

Windows Defender W10AU spikes to 3-4% when starting Office programs and 8-9% when starting Chrome and Edge. Previous version of WD on W10 spiked to 20-25% when launching Chrome (Edge launches were below 10%). So WD seems to be faster on W10AU
Good to see they are improving it. I likely still won't use it though. Maybe someday if it gets good enough.
Periodic scan is only done when PC is idle. Can't find the source... Although I'm not running Win10, and likely never will, I would have it enabled.
