Make a password protected encrypted file container rather, than crypting the whole drive.
    Should work.
Also, you should use VeraCrypt, which is sorta spinoff for TrueCrypt, but updated frequently.
    It's freeware.

I think the OP's main problem is that it looks as though he can encrypt his backup images, but there's no support within the AXTM products to un-encrypt them when needed for restoration... this must be done off-line and separately.

I've successfully upgraded 4 systems to win 10 (2 from 8.1 Pro to 10 Pro, 1 Win 7 Ultimate to 10 Pro, 1 Win 7 to win 10) and AXTMV1 was working fine after the upgrade.
But on my main system after the upgrade from Win7 Pro to 10 pro, when I tried to run AXTM (1.2.0.1120) it says
AXTM driver not installed, backups cannot be made
I tried reinstalling 1120 and 1.4.1.48 (without uninstalling) and it did not help.
Any suggestions for how to get AXTM working again?
    Thanks.

    Hello Stode,

Umm... I want to use the system-disk encryption.
Probably cause, I think backup image is encrypted when restore...
    I'm sorry, my poor English.

And, transfer to VeraCrypt of the my environment is scheduled.
But... TrueCrypt is good software, it has been delayed.
    Hello TheRollbackFrog,

    I think, you are correct.
Hourly creates a backup image that has been encrypted using the TrueCrypt or VeraCrypt.
I will consider using the FlashBack from by decrypt if necessary.

    Thank you, everyone.

I can not remember if ax64 v. 2.0.0.528 can back up to flash drives. Can it?
    TIA

I have been away a very long time and am returning to see how AX64 has progressed. I downloaded the latest FB and instantly got an error during backup and assume not much improvement has occurred in v2.
The last version I used successfully was v 1.4.1.48.
I have read a lot of posts for several hours unsuccessfully trying to find if there is a stable version for Win 8.1 with hot restore.
    Can somebody assist please.

The latest FlashBack version is build 703 which was released in January 2016. So you are right, development seems to have stalled. The lonely developer probably has his hands full working his regular day job. And this build 703 is the official stable version for Win 8.1 and Win 10.

The Hot Restore feature you know from AX64 version 1 is gone for good in the latest Flashback versions. Instead a new method is used where the recovery environment is run at the "native mode Windows NT API BOOT level". It is slower than the old Hot Restore, but is supposed to be more reliable.

If your old AX64 version 1.4.1.48 works for you, you are better off keeping this version. In my experience it is far more reliable than the latest FlashBack versions.

    Cheers

Same here. I bought licenses for version 1 & 2. Version 2 (flashback) was so unreliable, 1 was barely exceptable. ax64 looked so good at first, and wanted to contribute to its success but sadly it didn't live up to the hype. I sure hope one day it will get back on track.
After buying Macrium I never looked back, never failed.

If that wasn't clear, I've given up on any form of either AX 64 or flashback because they aren't reliable.

I agree macrium is excellent but I dont agree it makes system restore redundant, macrium does not have the same capabilities as system restore.

so e.g. lets say I have a 2tb partition of games. I enabled system restore to snapshot changes to the filesystem, the initial usage is 0 bytes, as no data is changed.
If I then upgrade a game with say 12 gig of new data, then the snapshot backup uses 12 gig.

With macrium, the initial backup would be 2tb, and then an extra 12 gig for the changes on a 2nd backup assuming either differential or incremental.

I have been using AX64 v1.4.1.48 since it first came out. I have made hundreds of restores with no problems. Every once in awhile it takes as much time to do an incremental backup as a full backup because of the tracking file, but it only happens once in a while. I also have Macrium Pro. I use AX64 as a daily because it does a faster incremental backup than Macrium. I use Macrium about once a week for safety.

As a BETA tester for Reflect's new CBT feature (Changed Block Tracking), I can tell you it's at least as fast as AX64 snaps if not faster. The first Reflect snap following a System RESTART will be as it is now... all following that use the new CBT feature. It's really quite fast... and no reSyncing (full scans) following burps in the system.

I expect to see the feature issued soon in a future release (most likely still within v6.x).

Is it affected by sudden power resets, BSODs and chkdsk runs etc?

If you're familiar with Reflect, then you know how it performs its Incrementals. The "standard" Reflect Incremental is not affected by the things you mention.

That being a given, the way the new CBT "mode" works is that the first Incremental following any kind of System RESTART is done in the current REFLECT manner ("Looking for changes"). Each one after that is done using the new CBT tracking system which is very similar to AX64... and the CBT Incremental snaps are about 20-25% smaller than a standard Reflect Incremental. If you're doing lots of SCHEDULED (and/or MANUAL) snapshots between System RESTARTS, it's a pretty big win.

It's very simple. They will offer you a special driver install which is done followed by a System RESTART. At that point a new option shows up under a current set of settings which you CHECK to enable.

That's it... nothing more needed, everything else is as it is now.

This from a FlashBack User on Facebook, dated 08Aug2016... it might help you make up your mind.

Edit: ...and can you believe it? People are actually inquiring as to when v3 will be available.

Lets take the macium stuff to that that thread. It would appear things here are sliding down hill very fast.
