Sorin G. is the English forum moderator over at BD, so we'll have to take his word for it. Because the Web site and page 5 of the User Guide tell otherwise. Me, I'll take Sorin over the typically copy/paste Web and docs teams. Logically, I doubt BD would go through all the work to update the UI for the same code.

OH NO! I forgot all about the PURE FACT!

I seen that too, but I agree why would they go through all that and not be w10 supported.

This is good news to see a 2016 edition of the free version. Good to see Exclusions and Quarantine as well. I hope that they keep the "set it and forget it" simplicity as the initial free version along with being light and efficient. Hoping they continue to remain nag-free as well. Let's hope for a smooth experience after beta runs its course.

I do wonder if users of the initial free edition will automatically be upgraded to this 2016 version once it goes stable. I would assume so, since they still likely have a sizable user base of their free edition.

Installed without incident on my Windows 10 Pro 3 GHz Core 2 Duo clunker.

Yeah. This is the Real Thing.

Biggest tell: vsserve has replaced gzserv for the Nimbus cloud services.

Everything else BDAV-Free is there including the latest Active Virus Control components and BD Core with the SHA-256 library.

The known protection flaws I confirmed for myself late last year with the previous BDAV-Free are resolved.

    Install and rock out. :thumb:

So what are the differences with the Plus version?

Quick and dirty, from the "top of the heap" in Phish Tank and VX Vault...

@haakon When it blocks a threat on windows 10, do you get any message from it? cause I get nothing (I mean any pop-up from file protection, web protection shows the blocked page). Just to understand if it is an intended behaviour or a problem with my system.

Is the on-demand scan option in the context menu ? I had BD free beta installed, but I missed the on-demand scan feature.

File(s) or folder(s) are drag-dropped directly onto the UI for an on-demand.

I dragged the Download folder to it and that pointer and "Release your..." message magically appear:

Ah thanks man, I saw that, but only remembered it now because of your image post.

I've tried about 30 top-of-the-list items from Clean MX, malc0de and VX Vault and can't get beyond BD's incredibly ineffective and mostly worthless :p URL filtering.

Seriously, I got blocks in-the-browser for each and every one of them - some for the URL, others for the detection of the file itself.

I can't fathom for out-of-the-browser threats that the bock or quarantine alert behavior would be any different from the previous version.

I don't have time to dig up some one's malware set to find out. I'll leave that to one the copy/paste challenged yoot oob "testers" vids which will no doubt be springing up soon. If they're not there already.

This has been an exercise in curiosity for me. As soon as the public release is available, I'm recommending it to the unfortunate free Windows 10 users I know as a replacement for Defender. Tho I freely admit the latter is OK.

I'll have to free up this Windows 10 test box for the BD 2017 beta soon anyway.

    @hjlbx :
The drag and drop spot disappears from the main window, after first update, but is still working.
    Maybe a beta flaw...
You can always right-click on a drive, folder or file, to do a on demand scan, like with any other AV.

So far Bit2016-free is running flawless on two older notebooks, with WIN8.1-64.
I rate the new GUI an improvement, over previous version.
I hope Bit keeps quite and shows no nags.
So far I'm very happy with it.

Using 140 meg for me. If this is what the stipped down free version uses, I'd hate to see what the full suite needs.

I assume you're talking about RAM use. That is actually a fairly small amount of RAM for an antivirus to use. The RAM usage will only matter if you've got 2-3GB or less of RAM installed. If you've 4GB of RAM, then that really is an insignificant amount to be used and will not affect your computer's performance. These days, you ideally need to have 4GB of RAM installed anyway, or when Windows Update runs, or you have a number of browser tabs open, etc, you computer will become low on RAM and will run slower as the page file will need to be used a lot.

If you don't have enough RAM to run an antivirus, then you probably need more RAM anyway.
