I really like this app but it just kills my battery. I leave everything at default. Using a nexus 6p with Android 6.0.1
Ok - will see if I can upgrade it. It is a grey import so not straightforward. Will AG run on custom ROMs?
Both licensed, been using A4A on my rooted Nexus 7 2013 4.4.4 since August 22 and since January 8 on my new not yet rooted Moto G 3rd Gen 6.0. No problems with side-load installs or the in-app updating. (For a couple of years I had been running Grey Shirts NoRoot Firewall to tediously build rules to block ad/spy domains which became increasingly overwhelming in achieving effectiveness, if at all.) Initially I had some problems on the Nexus but quickly determined it needed ignore in Clean Master and I immediately tossed it into the Ashampoo Optimizer whitelist on the Moto G. Absolutely no battery killing on either device. Adguard for Android rocks! Clean Master on the other hand has taken Bloat to pioneering new levels, demonstrating perfect mastery of the practice. Though ts basic functionality is still as advertised, I run it on the Nexus only to see how much more they can bork it up. They have a Lite version which should be Ultra-lite. Which is why I found Ashampoo Optimzer.[/off topic]
Normally it works, but I've seen some custom ROMs with removed VPN module (tun.ko). However, it is very unusual.
Are you sure it really kills your battery? Or it just seems to be so when you look at battery stats? Please read here about battery issues: https://kb.adguard.com/index.php?/K...ndroid-battery-and-traffic-consumption-issues
android 4.12 ....If i just turn the firewall on it seems to cause slowdowns or hangups in twitter and maybe other apps on my phone.
No custom permissions. Twitter has internet access. I can't be sure if AFA is causing the problem. It is only a guess.
Anyway it shouldn't depend on firewall status Also you're the first with a complaint on twitter app compatibility, so I hope AG is not an issue. However, if you're sure that AG interferes with that app, I suggest you doing the following: 1. Enable the firewall 2. Go to "Settings" - "Firewall" - "Apps and statistics" 3. Disable ad filtering for the twitter app
The firewall shows that it has blocked over 260 ads in the last month for twitter. Does that mean twitter is not using https but instead http on my phone.
I was looking at stats but it also seems like i have much more battery life at the end of the day without adguard installed. It maybe some other app causing my battery to drain so im doing some testing. Thanks
That's ok, mobile data uses much more battery. Here are some details on how Android calculates these status: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/co...led_adguard_and_was_in_for_a_surprise/cxvnen8 You should be able to find it out with Adguard's firewall stats, just look there which apps are in the top.
Reading this: http://news.softpedia.com/news/rans...ces-without-any-user-interaction-503394.shtml and as an Adguard Desktop for Windows user, I am now trialling Adguard for Android and it is looking good! Google Nexus 5, Android 6.0.1. Question: I understand it loads a VPN locally, would it work with Onavo Extend app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.onavo.android.onavoics&hl=en
The only way to use them both is to use Adguard in "Proxy" filtering mode. The problem is that you require root access to do it.
Successfully updated both my Nexus 7 2013 4.4.4 and Moto G3 6.0 to 2.5.196 from 2.1.359 without issue and enabled HTTPS filtering OK. The combination of Adguard and Sophos provides IMHO superior full-spectrum privacy and protection to users who don't care to or know how to root their devices. Given, of course, the user has no other VPN dependent app which cannot be abandoned.
Btw, the full v2.5 release notes: https://blog.adguard.com/en/adguard-android/adguard-for-android-25-official.html
With the latest beta v2.7 where is the setting to exclude an app from filtering? It's not there anymore..
Now if only this worked with WiFi Hotspot enabled... Otherwise, I'd say it's essential in saving bandwidth, screen real-estate, and time for all Android devices.
