I had measured (with AppTimer) that with adGuard Chrome started faster than with uBlock0. This is probably due to the bloat in uBlock filters. When using Chrome safe browsing all the added malware list provide very liittle extra protection. Most of the community maintained "ads block lists have got a lot of dead wood in their filter list.
On facebook page how or what can I add to stop the ads on the right hand side of the webpage? thank you
I have no ads in facebook, all I use is ublocko with default lists + 3rd party frames and scripts blocked + hostsman, lists are attached...
Just FYI, uBO starts faster once a selfie is available!! I don't see any uBlock Filters in your attachment.. I believe you are referring to ABP filter-lists present in uBO, not uBO filter-lists itself..
Re. the Adguard filter lists: Starting with uB0 1.77b using them makes even more sense because of the introduction of the new :style() cosmetic filtering operator:
No and Yes, No adding filters which are already covered by Google safe browsing is what I call bloat. You really don't need all the malware filters which are selected by default by uBlock0 Yes ABP filters for spyware contain a lot of dead entries, compared to the Adguard version. At the moment the best option is to use uBlock Origin, deselect all the filters, enable Google safe browsing and use ad and spyware filters of Adguard.
I do not consider the "Start time" as important as the page-load time once the extension has started, and even then 0.5-1 second either way is not worth moaning about unless you are using it for "Air Traffic Control" My uBlock is Slower at initial load than it is once browsing, which does not impede me in the slightest. The Paradox of having any specific filter list is that it may not appear to be of use until such a time that it proves itself to be useful... Yesterday the "HpHosts Misleading Marketing" Filter Warned me when I attempted to visit a Giveaway site to check out a game that a friend had recommended..another friend told me that the game to which the link pertained had malware. The hxxp://hosts-file.net/mmt.txt filter that helped me is a "Custom Filter" rather than a default uBlock filter.. IMO uBlock Origin is already closer to being more perfect than should ever be expected of a free extension.. It's initial settings/filters would be great for a novice user,or one that prefers "Set & Forget" exts I would have thought, and an advanced user,or one that likes to tinker/experiment can "Fine Tune" not only Scriptblocking but the addition of filter lists that are personally relevant and hand-picked. IMO uBlock Origin is Incredible...and regarding specific filter lists,One Mans "Bloat" is another Mans Shield.
You can add it to hostsman, ublock already has it...open hostsman then click on manage sources then add source. I prefer it to be system wide rather than just limited to the browser.
I see that my 3rd-party filters often show as only some of the total filters in that list being used. For example Dan Pollock's host file shows as 9,800 used out of 11,838. What does this mean and what happens to the other 2,038
I think it just means the 2,038 are already present in other lists you've selected, ublock removes duplicates across lists.
Thanks for explaining that. I then confirmed this by unselecting all the other lists and when applied got the full 11,838 filters used. So the removal of duplicates by ublock means that all the lists can be enabled with the knowledge that any filters if duplicated in another list will be unused. That's good to know this is how ublock works.
For those of you that use the excellent Filterlists.com as a resource for uBlock Origin compatible filters as I do... Polish speakers may be interested in the recent Changelog; v1.0.21 July 11, 2016 / in Changelog / by Collin M. Barrett via azet12 Added KAD Polish. DESCRIPTION: Blocks Polish regional scams and phishing. OTHER POLISH FILTERS ON FILTERLIST INCLUDE; Fanboy Polish / Maciej’s Polish / Maciej’s Polish Cookies / Maciej’s Polish Social / Adblock Polska Polish
On the other hand uBO will also apply the block filter to sub-domains -- something not done by a hosts file: adding "evil.biz" to a hosts file won't cause "lol.evil.biz" to be blocked by that hosts file.
Do you have do be logged in to a Facebook account to see that ? I don't have an account myself but I visited a page on FB few minutes ago and saw no ads like that hmmm. Take a screenshot ?
Sorry, your are right I am wrong it are the filters mentioned under Malware and Multi Purpose, nothing to do with ABP
