Another thing that I noticed: when I block yimg.com with uBlock, then it breaks the page layout of finance.yahoo.com, this doesn't happen with NoScript. The aim is to block it only on Yahoo Finance, and to allow it on other sites like Flickr. So is this normal behavior?

  4. Question to @Rasheed187 : Why would you want to block yimg.com (or gstatic.com)?

Yes. In this scenario uBlock is similar to requestpolicy. Requestpolicy will block the destination's resources such as stylesheet (css) (layout), images, scripts, etc. Noscript by default block scripts. Blocking yimg.com in Noscript will only block the script, not the layout of the page (css, image).

    Hmm...
    @gorhill
I cannot save this dynamic filtering rule:
    finance.yahoo.com yimg.com script block

script seems to be a valid type?

    finance.yahoo.com http://yimg.com script block
    can be saved.

    Observation

When no-strict-blocking is on, filters in host file format don't seemed to be blocked (adBlock filters seem to work normally).

    Question:

Is this a bug or due to limitation related to host file formats?

This is no bug but the intended behavior. Disabling strict blocking is the way how ABP works.

Regarding Disconnect. If you use uBlock then all you need to do if you want to use any of the lists from Disconnect is to tick the checkbox for 1, 2 or all 3 lists which is found in the settings panel of uBlock.

I assume DOSawaits mean that there may be trackers that Ghostery could/should include on their list, but that they choose not to include for various reasons. So it could block more trackers than it currently does.

I personally don't feel the need to use either Disconnect, Ghostery or any similar add-ons in addition to uBlock. Especially as I like to keep the add-ons as few as possible in my browser. I also don't use all lists available from Disconnect in uBlock even if I easily could do that with a click or two. (I know all of them are not anti-tracking lists)

They are still enforced for secondary resources, they just won't apply to the main document (i.e. same behavior as other blockers).

Because if you create a dynamic filtering block rule for yimg.com, uBO will block *everything* from yimg.com, not just scripts.

Adding to what gorhill wrote: From the uB0 wiki

If you want more granular control you need uMatrix.

    uBlock 1.7.6 Released

    • Disable DNS prefetching when pre-fetching is disabled in settings
    • NoScript + uMatrix = cookie leak
    • uBO was not suffering from the specific reported issue, but was theoretically suffering from the
root cause at the source of incompatiblity between uMatrix and NoScript.

  15. Chrome store still displays 1.7.2

    Different releases for different browsers?

I tried to get updated, but no. 1.7.2 it is. Also tried to get uMatrix updated, but it is still 0.9.3.3. Then I downloaded the zip files from change log link, but could not get that way updated. Never done it that way myself so must be my fault.
Firefox uBO i could get updated to 1.7.6 by clicking the xpi file, I think.

I think chrome store takes a little more time to approve and release onto the store. May be give it a day or two, it will definitely come!

B/w For Firefox, it is updated automatically.

Sometimes you'll need to wait 1-2 weeks, or some days until the new version can be installed from the Chrome store.

@Jarmo - you need to download the ZIP (for chrome) from github, extract it and install extension from <path-to>\uBlock0.chromium.
the major problem here is that you need to uninstall the regular from store but before export settings and import into new installation. otrherwise you have uBo installed twice. next disadvantage ist, that eg. opera portable is using that installation fixed by its path. if you change path when at another computer opera wont use uBo unless you install it that way again. settings are IMO saved.

i also hardly miss the update at chrome store but IMO raymond wrote about that it has something to do with the edge compatibility. google

Yeah, I think so, but I won't go any further off topic. ;) By the way, pink was meant to be red just to stand out.

    Hello,
Chrome Store now has the latest version of µBlock Origin 1.7.6.
Very true as sometimes the Chrome Store approves the new version in as little as an hour or two and sometimes it can take several day (or even over a week)...
