I have a Windows 7 64 bit computer. It has some sata 3 ports. I have a sata 3 hard drive enclosure. Can I use the sata 3 enclosure with a sata 2 hard drive.as a back up? If so can the enclosure be connected to the sata 3b port?
USB is forwards and backwards compatible so "in theory" you can use USB 2.0 devices in 3.0 ports, or 3.0 devices in 2.0 ports. I say "in theory" because theory and real-world don't always jive. So I say, try it and find out. There's no reason any damage to your drive, computer, or data will occur if it does not work.
Robin you are correct. I have every thing confused. The enclosure and the port on the computer is USB 3. The drive is sata 2
I am afraid I confused things. Sorry about that. But actually, my answer remains the same. SATA is forwards and backwards compatible. So try it and see. Typically what happens is you are limited by the slowest link.
