I was wondering if it couldn't be something to do with Ai + the Blacklist scan scanning at the same time?

I don't get a chance to post in this thread much, these days, since I am [still] running a redundant OS...namely XP. ;) But, I also run the premium version of MBAE, and you can never tell when it updates, until it just happens. So, it was nice of VS to popup about the process. P.S. I am about to make the move to Windows 10 x64 Bit, shortly. So, I will be able to test the newer versions, once again. :)

In the light of the post by @indian11, @Cache may have a point re interaction with other security softs, maybe behaviour blockers?

As far as I can recall, I have not had the reported freeze issue, with either Emsisoft or WSA (or both), plus MBAE, and even MBARW.
Though I have had blank pop-ups due to cleanmgr (dismhost), and the shield turn white.

Could it be due to Chrome itself, i.e. have Firefox users experienced the issue?

Yes, I have had VS freeze when I've been prompted for other stuff while I've had FF / CF open too. I only used Software Reporter Tool as an example.

I don't often use Chrome so that could be why SRT runs when I do.

    I have, I'm afraid.

Don't use Chrome or Firefox either, just Opera.

The Google Software Reporter Tool went through a few different name changes as I understand it. At the moment it is now Chrome Cleanup Tool. You can actually download it and run the tool manually (https://www.google.com/chrome/cleanup-tool/) for testing purposes. I would probably suggest running from different locations to see if someone can replicate the issue, such as from User directories and/or elsewhere. Though, there may be some difference between running the tool manually versus having the tool spawned by chrome.exe or potentially one of Google's scheduled tasks for updating it's binaries, I believe that may be part of it. I can't recall at the moment if it was called GoogleUpdate.exe or something similar, I don't have Google Chrome installed at the moment.

With the recent mention of VoodooAI potentially clashing with certain AV software, does VoodooAI itself perform any kernel level calls that would be similar to the calls/filtering that might be done by some AV's?

Hey @VoodooShield Dan is support for XP gone now? If so can you supply a link for the last version that will work on XP please?

    Thanks,

    Daniel

Thanks all for your answers about MBAE and VoodooShield :thumb: For the moment I will keep it uninstalled.
@VoodooShield Dan, I had VoodooShield freeze when uninstalling SpywareBlaster. I will email you the logs. Edit; email sent. Hope you can see something in them.

  10. Dan,

I can imagine that your focus and priority is the freeze issue. Have a lquick look at this Cylance post and contact me when you are ready (freeze issue is solved), When you have you head cleared we talk about the Cylance solution for offloading and preprocessing the bulk of the Artificial Intelligence analysis.

    Regards Kees

Sorry, I will catch up soon (I am super busy today)... Thank you Kees... please see my post on the Sophos youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95omp6-I58k). It reads something like this...

Great test, very informative, and your timing could not bet better! I think you will see why in a moment.

Would you be interested in conducting a joint test based on your findings, and the findings from the following video?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvfrS6_nyyM

Maybe we could test the top 4-5 performers, and all are welcome to participate?

After running smoothly for the last few days 3.28 has now frozen. I had set it to training to install something. Realised a lot later that it had not reminded me and was still red. When I checked it froze.

I am now running Avira instead of Avast in case it is relevant.

Hey Dan they would have to be real world tests right? If so test WSA with default settings? I have to agree with what the Sophos rep had to say about Cylance, for consumers Cylance isn't a viable Solution as there vision is still on Enterprise 200 seats or more and or MSP vendor's like the one on Wilders and you don't have control of any settings, maybe in the future...... but not now.

BTW, yeah, I agree... having Cylance running a full time Ai scan with their 3-4 algorithms in the background, along with VoodooAi's slightly more agressive 3 algorithms
They appear to run at the same time, but actually the Ai scan runs right after the blacklist scan. But it is almost definitely something in the user prompt / VoodooAi code that is causing the issue... I think we are getting close! Thank you!

Yeah, it would be soooo easy if we could just make it happen on demand.

Hey Tarnak, long time no see! That's great, I think you will really like all of the changes from 2.86 to the latest version.

I really am not sure... The only thing that I am sure about is that it is one little specific thing that they all have in common, and once we figure out what it is, it will be an easy fix. Thank you!

I get the prompt but no freezing? Could it be an AppData user space issue?

Cool, thank you WildByDesign, I will download the stand alone version and see if we can duplicate the issue!

VoodooAi does not perform any kernel level calls, it pretty much just examines the executable binary without actually executing it. But it would not surprise me if the issue was caused by the AV denying VoodooAi permission to inspect the file, so then it freezes. Thank you!

Hey TH, yeah, we really have to discontinue XP support, but here is the last version of VS that worked with XP:

    http://voodooshield.com/Download/Versions/InstallVoodooShield.exe

For VS 3.0, advanced users can easily get away with only running VS... but if you are going to run VS 2.86 on XP, I would probably run Webroot along with VS, just in case... we have not updated it in a very, very long time. Thank you!

Hey hayc59, how are you? Long time no see! I just posted 2.86 above. It would be quite difficult to make VS 3.0 work with XP, because VS 3.0 uses a lot of built in windows security mechanisms that were simply not available in XP... but were later available for Vista and above. Sure, it probably could be done, but it would take a very, very long time to do, and I personally think it would never be "just right". Sorry about that, thank you!
