You mean the tray icon? I have a dark theme and the little doggie (Andy, I think) can hardly be seen when WAR is not-stopped. I've also asked Bret for a background/highlight. Perhaps a safe green. Or happy blue. It's probably still on his to-do list.

If not the tray icon, what is the "active GUI icon"?

Sigh. It's got nothing to do with the "safezone option." The latest version now has Remove Item(s) in the Actions pages menu bar and context menu. (There are four Actions pages. They are the ones using the word "actions" under the icons in the ribbon.) In previous versions, Remove Item(s) was present only in the Access History page. Get it?? If not, I don't know of any way it can be explained to your satisfaction. But we sure did try. :)

Haakon, I see now what you are saying. Thanks
    That helped a lot. Now
I am so happy I am going to grill a ribeye and potato in tin foil with onions.
since I retired last week I got time to do that sort of thing and spend more time here.:D

    Look at Charyb's screenhot.
SafeZone Actions tab is active but its icon is greyed and looks like inactive/disabled.
    Other icons are "normal".
IMHO it should be bolded or with some background shadow.

True, that is the ages-old context of a greyed-out object.

But I believe the behavior in those WAR icons is determined by Window's Ribbon Framework for Task Panes. It's possible the API locks that in. In the interest of Uniformity, of course.

FYI- Britec did a follow-up video where he installed WAR properly. The new results essentially mirror mine.

cruel, I see his video from 5/30. is there a newer one?

    It's not really a follow-up but a test in Windows 10.

Anyhow, his stock reply to comments about the Windows 7 test failure is basically "I don't know why" and he'll do another test "real soon." Well, until "real soon" arrives, that other test should be deleted or at the very least be notated that the results are in dispute.

After looking at some of his other stuff, IMHO I'm not sure I would trust him to test tire pressure gauges. He sure does like to hear himself speak.

Because of his disconnected subject title convention, I'm posting up link to the video:

But "How To Protect Against A Ransomware Attack" does ring true. WinAntiRansom rocks.

No, that's not even close to what happened.
If you're getting confused you could try actually watching the videos.
Also read haakon's comments (one post above yours) which also explains the situation.

How does an end user make a "blunder" with a program such as WinAntiRansom? You run the installer, install the program, accept the defaults (if you wish) and you are protected. Not much room for "blunders". If there is a problem setting up WinAntiRansom then it is a usability problem with WinAntiRansom itself.

I think it is a bug, and it should be fixed ASAP.
But, the lesson? Britec's test mirrors ordinary people who download and install security software. I wonder how many in the world who install security software believing it protects them even though the program isn't working well.

In the second video he tries to get file information from Virus Total which I'm guessing does not work due to their policy change. I thought as a "security expert" he would be aware of this.
In another test for SecureAPlus I think he gives the impression you would be safe from ransomware just because it detected the known samples via signatures. I would love to see how it handled a zero day sample.
Like haakon I'm not very impressed.

Here is one for ya though.

per my directions above, instead of restarting the program, just keep double clicking on the icon, then after 3 or for times doing that, now restart the program.
on my machine , once I restat protection , for every time I clicked that stopped protection icon I got all the main guis opening at the same time

What mistake did Britec make exactly? Perhaps it was a conflict with another app?

No idea what went on. I attempted to reproduce the issue with the app in trial mode but was unable to do so.

There is no free version. Trial or licensed.

On that note, if you listen closely at the very beginning of that Britec test, he maintains he had to buy a license as he couldn't get an email response from WinPatrol. Bret has always responded to my inquiries, once within minutes (my posts 212 & 213), always in a day or two at the most.

As well, Britec couldn't figure out how to get WAR to run in trial.
