Thanks anon. I'm loving ZAM. Light as a feather on my ancient box, & it does full scans fast & effective.

Installed zm again today, had two keys but lost both of them(through a pst crash and a mailadrress change). Anyway, noticed the keys are 90 days now, is that correct?

My Zemana keeps not being able to connect to the internet or cloud service. When I DL a new copy it connects fine after a while it stops being able to connect. Any Ideas?

Hitithome do you have enable Pandora real time tech checked? Last time I looked default setting didn't check this.

Pandora was enabled, while scanning the zip file, but I did not execute the js file.
After unpacking, the js file was detected, when manually scanned.

The malicious zip file came in on wednesday and passed Kaspersky EndpointSecurity10

hitithome packed or zipped files by them selves are not harmful if I remember. It is only after they have been unzipped, they can cause trouble.

  12. Zemana AntiMalware uses which AV signature database? Other or in-house?

Ok I was wrong about the DNS Hijack detection.
It appears when I have APPguard protection on it does not detect it but when I turn APPGuard detection off it keeps detection it all the time.

Of course, but AVIRA detects included LOCKY, Zemana does not.
Kaspersky now does also detect, it took almost 3 days...

Time for a Zemana deployee to kick in, and explain, if packed files are scanned, or not.

I have the same "problem". My key only shows 90 days instead of lifetime.

    Hello HiltiHome,

Zip files are not scanned by ZAM. But if you try to execute a file which is inside a zip file, ZAM will detect and block it (including JS files). This is all about performance. We scan the files before they execute. If you extract the file and drag-and-drop into the UI, it will be detected or in the full scan, extracted files will be detected.

    Thanks.

    @Emre TINAZTEPE :
THX for clarification. It is what I expected.

But I do have some concerns about not scanning compressed files:
I my opinion it's ok, to only scan executables on access, to get best performance,
but when scanned on schedule, right-click, or drag and drop to scan field, compressed files should be scanned, to ensure a safe state.
Otherwise ZAM says "congrats, your computer is safe", while there might be malicious files, that can make it into backup, another drive,
or being forwarded to another user.

    Emre, what do you think?
What do other guys think about, not scanning compressed files on demand?

    BTW:
I did a full scan, but the malicious zip file was not detected by ZAM...

    33/56, after several days....

In one of my snapshots, whenever I run ZAM portable, it will create these 'symbol files' in C:\WINDOWS\system 32 which are 16 KB in size. Presumably, these are temp files, and I can delete them. But, whatever the reason for these files, they do seem unusual.

hiltihome I think they shouldnt be scanned as compressing archives is a massive slow process for little benefit.
