For now Greenshot fits the bill for me. Fast, no window, a tray icon and shortcuts. The editor is simple but good enough for fast edits.
Snipping tool is fine for basic captures, but i'm not able to take a full capture of a page that scrolls.Take this forum as an example,it scrolls so i'm not able to capture with the snipping tool because if i let go of the left mouse button to scroll down to get the full page the snipping tool closes. Is there a program that one can use to take a capture of the whole page that scrolls?
Does the job just fine http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/lightscreen_portable more info http://lightscreen.com.ar/
ShareX here. It's really lightweight and has very interesting options to share catches both file and from the clipboard. It also has a small editor and is translated into many languages
I just tried this as I needed a screen capture that also included the cursor. It is very nice and also available in a portable download. Lots of features that I didn't explore. One that I noticed was Imgur support.
I am using Hypersnap, but after trying out ShareX for the first time i have the need to switch to ShareX Regions can be captured with ease and in overall i'm impressed. It was updated some days ago (Windows XP and Vista are not supported anymore): Share X v12.1.1 (March 25, 2018) Website / (Github) Download Changelog Spoiler: Changelog v12.1.1 ShareX 12.1.1 - 2018-03-25 Bug fixes ShareX 12.1.0 - 2018-03-19 Upgraded .NET Framework version to 4.6.2. Because of this upgrade Windows XP and Windows Vista is not supported anymore. If you don’t have .NET Framework 4.5 or higher is installed, ShareX auto updater will not be able to show new update because we are using GitHub API to check for updates and they require TLS 1.2 now which is not supported with .NET Framework 4.0. For detailed information click here We now have a vanity Discord invite link: https://discord.gg/ShareX Added image editor autosize start mode, which will resize the window to fit the image. Well, ole sentimental Windows soul that I am it's still the long long abandoned Windows 98 SRip32 still going strong as ever on this end.

About portable version: In order to keep your settings in the same directory where Capture files are, create a shortcut pointing to Captura.UI.exe with cmd line argument, for example: Code: P:\Captura\Captura.UI.exe --settings P:\Captura\Settings or without sub-folder: Code: P:\Captura\Captura.UI.exe --settings P:\Captura It works really nice at least for my needs. Set the Frame Rate to 30 for less choppy/jerky playback, ymmv.
XnView is a photo viewer (my favorite one) but also offers some basic screenshot functionality. Captura looks very interesting
been using in the past years FastStone Capture (paid version): hxxps://xxx.majorgeeks.com/files/details/faststone_capture.html i also have tried some few other products but FastStone was IMO the best screen capture software...
Agreed. But when it comes to screen recording its FS recorder is lousy, at least for me. I really liked Captura for this end.
My demands are minimal in this area so I just use the "Capture Page" tool in Vivaldi. Gives me choice of full page or selecting a specific area. If I'm using Opera [because of VPN to escape the stupid Oz restrictions on accessing download sites] then the "Snapshot" utility also works well. These are both static captures but easier to use than editing a "Save Page As" download.
Vilvaldi is also my own browser of choice. Appreciate that mention of a screencap tool inside. Captura + ScreenToGif are screen grabbers I use in my Gif recording/editing interests and work like a charm, however wasn't aware Vilvaldi has it's own, built-in. Thanks
