    Earth .... occasionally
I've used it for some time now , since the W10 fiasco started .

Every time the latest Borks come around I enable the monitor mode , then I do a manual check for updates.
If there are any that I want , I do the download/install , reboot , then disable monitor mode once it's all done .

I have all W7 telemetry disabled , so I can't see any real benefit in leaving it enabled in between times.

Having said that , by the time I do the updates , I've already heard about all of the stinkers , either on this forum ,
    or Woody Leonhard .

I've read about " Never 10 " in other forums , but I know nothing about it ......
.... have any other Wilders members tried it ?

I had the GWX monitor enabled in Windows 7. When I began an upgrade to 10 from a USB, GWX produced a notification about it. The monitor worked as expected.

We need a bookie for taking bets whether or not the 'W10 fiasco' will continue beyond July 29, 2016. Seriously, there are rumors floating around saying that MS may extend the free upgrade year beyond that date :(

Sure it's going to continue beyond the posted cut off. M$ wants everyone on Win 10 come hell or high water! Look at the sneaky updates they have been putting out. M$ will not be satisfied until EVERYONE is on Win 10. :(

LOL. Update! M$ paying top distros Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, openSUSE & more to integrate aggravating GWX update nags into distros!

Two days too late or am I?

I installed Windows 7 Yesterday and literally spent the whole day updating. The only updates I didn't stall were these (link) which are related to Windows 10 or Microsoft's spying, and the OS is fine. Why do some people have their OS's botched by some updates? o_O

@amarildojr I did the same thing a few months back. I didn't even use a list, I just unchecked the "recommended" updates and it seems that all the bad stuff just fell into the Optional category. I have 72 Optional updates, and I don't plan on installing ANY of them. Didn't use a list, all the bad ones are Optional. One did come thru last month, the IE Cum update with the hidden baddie in it, I just removed that, and all is well again. Seems simple enough to me... No other problems, nags, or issues at all.

@Kerodo But that's why I'm confuse, because I did install almost all recommended updates and there was nothing bad in them, at least for me.

@amarildojr Wow! That kinda upsets my theory then too. I thought they were sneaking the bad ones thru as "recommended". Maybe not then. Maybe most of the bad junk is just Optional. Hmmm...

@Kerodo Wait. How many sections do you have? Because AutoPatcher has "Critical" (which are ONLY security updates) and "NonCritical" (which are all the rest). I installed all of the security updates and almost all the other ones too, only excluding a few because of Windows 10 and Microsoft's spying.

I research all updates, and installed all that were reported as being "bad", except the ones that are related to Windows 10/spying.

@amarildojr I'm not familiar with AutoPatcher, but I'm just talking about the sections in Win Updates. There are those that show up in the regular window as Important or Critical, and then a box in WU settings for showing Recommended updates in the Important section (which I unchecked), then all that's left are Optional. For me, when I uncheck Recommended, all the unwanted stuff just gets dumped into Optional, which I then ignore..

I just don't think M$ are quite getting the message about Win 10.

http://www.infoworld.com/article/30...2977759-keep-turning-up-like-bad-pennies.html We haven't seen the three headless horsemen -- aka "compatibility updates" KB 2952664, 2976978, and 2977759 -- for a little over a week now. As I wrote on March 31, these three Windows 10-related patches just keep reappearing, like bad pennies. If you hid them last week, Microsoft has unhidden them again. They appear in Windows Update as optional and unchecked.
    • KB 2952664 is a "compatibility update" that eases upgrading from Win7 SP1 to Win10. It now sits at version 20, up from 19 last week.
    • KB 2976978 does the same thing, but for Windows 8 and 8.1. It's at version 24, up from 22. There's no indication why Microsoft gave it an additional version number bump.
    • KB 2977759 covers the same bases, but for Windows 7 without SP1. It, too, has been given an extra bump, from version 18 last week to version 20 this week. We need a Drew Carey meme: "Welcome to Win10 patching, where everything's made up and the points don't matter."

Today there has been an update released for IE, a cumulative one, KB3139929. It contains important security fixes, although I think they are not so important for someone like me who never even opens IE let alone browses with it. I really ought to install this update but there is a huge problem, it has as one of it's non-security fixes (which come along with it during installation) something called KB3146449. KB3146449 is an update to make "upgrade" from windows 8.1 or 7 to windows 10 easier, it might go so far as to cause "upgrade" I'm not so sure about that though, Either way I have no intention of taking that kind of risk.
