Yup! I took the option to "Upgrade" over my existing build 768 but it still screws up the Scheduler2 Windows Service - after reboot, the service is NOT started, if you try to manually start the service you get a file not found type of error.

Complete uninstall/reinstall and all is okay.

v7 build 619 is STILL the only version of TrueImage that correctly sees ONE Raid0 drive from the Boot CD.

Please Acronis lets get this working again

Has anyone noticed what "scheduler fixes" have been implemented. I am reasonably happy with 768, but find the scheduler pretty poor. However, on balance I would prefer not to upset the applecart by upgrading, unless something significant has been fixed in the scheduler area.

Don't use the scheduler here.
Did a increment backup and a practice restore after upgrading to 771 and
everything seems to be working ok.

 

Not a thing! That is to say, I'm unable to see any benefit from changes that were made to 771 from 768 (sure wish Anton was more specific about the actual fixes!)....

Btw, is it reasonable to assume that a Rescue CD created with an earlier build of v8 is compatible with later builds of the same version?

If you make an Image in Windows with the newer Build of Ti, then the Build of a BootDisk, the older BootDisk it will either say the Image is corrupt or it will show up empty.

An ATI7 boot disc can't open an ATI8 image, but you are implying that different minior revisions within ATI8 are incompatible?

Have you verified this to be the case?

I have tested an image created with build 771 using the build 768 rescue CD, and it did indeed work fine for me.

Thanks for the info... At first blush, I thought my question was going to get a resounding "of course it will be compatible with subsequent builds of the same version". Guess not... What a drag!

 

Ah, wdormann is possibly the most capable member of this forum and he says it is compatable. I would listen to him until proven wrong. (No insult to TheQuest, who is also a valued member)

 

Or this just may be one of those aspects of TI that's very configuration sensitive! ...sometimes works and other times doesn't.

I just created a brand new image using ATI 8 build 771
Here's a screenshot from the ATI8 build 768 rescue CD:

In my experience, when you stick within a major version (6,7,, the rescue CD will retain forward compatibility.

 

W~ Thanks for the reassurance. I'd hate to believe that everytime we ugraded to a new build within the same version it was necessary to burn another Recovery CD in order to assure 'image readability'!

 

I agree with wdormann and back it up with my own tests as follows:

1. Uninstalled TI 8.0 Build 768 and installed Build 771 (according to various posts on this forum, doing it this way reduces the likelyhood of subsequent problems).

2. Created an image of my active partition with Build 771 in Windows mode and successfully restored it using a Build 768 recovery disk.

3. Burnt a Build 771 recovery disk, booted from it and created a new image of my active partition.

4. Successfully recovered the active partition using both the Build 771 and Build 768 recovery disk.

However, I think pvsurfer should seriously consider burning a new recovery disk for each new build (use a CD-RW if need be). It's a small price to pay for the reassurance that one is always using the latest Linux device drivers and program bug fixes/enhancements. See the latter posts in this thread:
