It's normal if this setting is set:
Advanced Settings - [X] Automatically deactivate after [10] minutes of system idle

That's the default setting in the free version. All of the settings are greyed out. Perhaps I should set it to ALWAYS ON.

Cool, thank you for letting us know! Vlad will be able to help you better than I can on this one... I do remember that when Chrome used to be installed to appdata, it caused a lot of problems since we protect these folders pretty well, since they are favorite hiding spots for viruses. Thank you!

That's understandable ;). You could also exit out of VS and move the .dat files to a temporary folder, and then when you restart VS, it will rebuild these files automatically... just to test. After you test, you can always exit out of VS again and put the original files back. Also, I was curious... have you tried more than 1 usb device? Like maybe a flash drive as well? Thank you!

Thank you mood for the help! And yeah, VS has not disabled UAC for a very long time... I wish that misconception would die (along with a few others) ;). I L M B, if you need a Pro license, just email me at support@voodooshield.com. The settings are greyed out because you are running the free version. Thank you!

Dan, each machine has its own external drive for backup, so 2 machines, 2 external HDDs. If I insert a flash drive VS does toggle to ON.

I see... so what happens when you unplug one of the external HDD's and plug it back in? VS should toggle to ON, unless something in the USB is not being detected properly.

BTW, VS will only toggle to ON when the USB drive is actually inserted... which basically, if it had a virus on it at that point, the virus would try to run. VS will not toggle to on if a USB drive is already inserted and you reboot the machine... we could do it that way, but if we did, VS would always remain ON (in smart mode) WHENEVER a USB drive was plugged in, like basically it would never toggle OFF if the drive was never unplugged. Does that make sense?

Yes, I'm aware of that. that's why I said, "Inserting an external HDD into a USB port, VS does NOT toggle to Smart Mode [ON]".

After unplugging the HDD and plugging it back in VS toggles to ON. It seems that when the machine is idle VS does not detect the initial insertion.

I see what you mean... when the computer is idle and VS has deactivated to OFF after 10 minutes of idle, inserting a USB does not wake VS up so that it can toggle to ON and display the USB label.

Probably all we have to do is to turn VS's idle timer OFF when a USB is inserted... it should be an easy fix. Thank you!

Hey Dan, would that be considered a targeted bypass of VS? Wait 10 minutes or so and insert an infected USB device?

Hehehe, I guess technically, yes (but obviously we are going to fix it). Keep in mind that VS has to be in Smart Mode, with no web apps running, and the user cannot touch the keyboard or mouse, and then they have to insert an infected USB drive. But yeah, it is something we need to fix... thank you for catching that! I owe you an extra beer in Vegas ;).

    @VoodooShield, @VladimirM

I know it's possible to add a custom program to "Web Apps", but by any chance can you add Vivaldi browser as a default?

Or maybe reset the timer to start again?

    VS 3.10beta (Smart Mode)
today VS switched to "ON / USB", but i connected no USB-drive.
I only mounted Volumes with Truecrypt.

    Dismount all Truecrypt-volumes = VS - Off
Mount all Truecrypt-volumes = VS - "ON / USB"

    Another bug report:

I've just came back to one of my machines to find VS ON but no web application running. When I right clicking the gadget there was no response but right clicking the tray icon and hovering over the pop up showed the spinning wheel but options did not respond. VS had locked up. My only option was to kill VS in Task Manager. This is not the first time I had this happen, actually it has happened quite a few times now, but I don't know what causes it.

    Dan and Vlad,

Please let me know if you need some logs.

    Thanks.

VS is stopping Heimdal Pro from installing, unless I disable it. VS allows the installer to run, but the installer fails with an error unless I disable VS.
