Hello everything, Thought share that Hosts Block 2.0 beta has started http://hostsblock.boards.net/thread/64/hosts-block-2-beta-started
Windows Defender react when programs try to change the HOSTS file. That is really good for WD because malicious programs try to do things like that.
Hi, For your info: About the issue that Windows Defender reacts when you use a custom HOSTS file: There is an MS KB article: Hosts file is detected as malware in Windows Defender https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2764944 In that MS article you can find a resolution in case you don't want Windows Defender to react when you use a custom HOSTS file. It is the user who decides whether he/she wants this. I hope this helps.
Beta Update: Hosts Block 2.0.4 Bug fix - fixed issue where 127.0.0.1 localhost wasn't at top of hosts file. Bug fix - Custom Entries now added correctly. Added - now when editing the hosts file with in the Hosts Block any new entry's are auto added into Custom entries. Note: by default Custom Entries starts at the top of the hosts file reordering. This can be changed in Options. Download link www.dropbox.com/s/whdzxlnzf6nbgcp/Hosts%20Block%20Setup.msi?dl=0 If no known bugs are found by me or anyone else. The next version will go live and Update all Stable versions from 1.9.8 to version 2.0.5. Ill wait a week or two thanks Brock
Hosts Block 2.0.6 Released! http://hostsblock.boards.net/thread/66/hosts-block-2-6-released thank you Brock
Hi Brocke I've been recommending Hosts Block to friends and clients for some time now. Earlier today I did some routine updates on a client machine and updated the program and the Hosts file. The machine was a W7 64-bit , and currently running the free version of Hosts Block . I definitely clicked on update and not upgrade , and all looked good . On reboot there was a pop-up that said " License revoked " although all aspects of Hosts Block appeared normal. Just thought I'd give some feedback ..... might be something you want to look at .
No , it's the free version that's running , and it's not my machine . Since posting , I did two more reboots and I can't replicate the problem , and Hosts Block seems to be running normally .... .... could be one of those spurious things that scientists like to call an " artifact " ... I've got very similar updates to do on some other W7 machines in the next few days and if I see it again I'll post back here .
Program Update: Hosts Block 2.1.4 Version 2.1.4 Added - Line count in options, Under Hosts file tab you will see how many entries will be added into the hosts file Added - Removed comments at update, Found in Options>General Tab. Added - Msgbox warning if Hosts file is too large, Will alert at 100,000 lines
I've fixed the link. Here is the new link to download the Setup file http://173.215.4.8:8080/Hosts Block Setup.msi All websites should now point to this. Dropbox caught on thank you Brock
Question for Hosts Block users here, I am working on a beta version of v2.2 Which is include better version to version updating, Along with Hosts Block letting you know what process is locking the hosts file. This will help users know if you Security programs are conflicting with Hosts Block. What my question is Do you see the need for silent program updates or just have a standard popup stating theres an update available and show a change log along with the popup.? I know some people don't like silent updating. Should there be both or is the norm just a stand popup approach like all others? thank you for your input Brock
I've read some posts here that mention custom entries. Are the custom entries based on what is allowed in a normal HOSTS file (eg: xxxx.akamaihd.net), or can things like -- *akamai* -- be entered?
You can add entries into the hosts file using Hosts Block or any other editor. Right now Hosts Block doesn't support wild cards. Thank you Brock
Do you have visual c++ 2010 and .net framework 4.0 installed? Do any error come up or just won't start. I'll test it it and get back to you. Thanks Brock
