ScreenHunter_02 Mar. 11 16.13.jpg Is the install file signed? I already posted on trying to install it and got following error but never got an answer.

I did the update through the maintenance tab, it downloaded and applied the update. In the process asking for confirmation that I had initiated the uninstall / update. All appeared to go smoothly, and my settings and exceptions were retained.

However, when I now go to the maintenance tab (even after reboot) it says I am still on version 2.1.7 with a copyright date of 2011-2015?

That is interesting. Mine reads: TinyWall 2.1.8 and Copywright & 2011-2015 Karoly Pados. I downloaded the installation file instead using the maintenance tab though.

Try check with a something like Process Hacker / Task Manager the 2 running TinyWall.exe processes. Task Manager might show only one process unless you make it to "show all users processes". Anyways it should show that the version is 2.1.8. Task Manager also shows copywright upto 2016.

To boredog: My install file shows being digitally signed. Could be something in your program if it shows the file not being valid?

I do have my smart screen setting on high however. This might be causing the issues. When I do get it installed and select normal mode I do lose internet connection. Until I select learning mode then I get my internet connection back.

You are running with TW a two-way firewall. That is as expected. Outgoing connections are blocked. Instead of using that Autolearn mode I suggest you delete all the exceptions it has made. It also offers no firewall protection! So I do hope you were behind a router firewall and had your Windows etc. updated.

Instead go to Manage / Application Exceptions. Press 'Detect' and select from there what browsers etc. you want to allow.
Then learn how to whitelist applications by the 3 ways that are given, especially by the Window. And 4rth the Connections window (blocked connections) that must be open before the application you think is blocked from internet is started.

The point of running a firewall like TinyWall is to control outgoing connections. If you don't want/can't handle that, then Windows firewall with default settings would serve you better.

    Best wishes whatever you choose.

Well yes I have using computers since the late 70's. Even went to electronics school. Tested for Symantec and a large selection of other companies. So to answer your question, yes I have been using a router since dialup days ended lol
I also don't install any software that requires a reboot because I use Quietzone. That means after a reboot all changes are gone. At my elderly age I am like Rasheed, we don't want to do a lot of special rules to run a program. And I have always been a firm believer that if my grandma if she were still alive cant run it, then the vast majority of the lay people can't, so it has to be not only efficient but very simple to use.

Outgoing connections blocking firewall is not something that can offer any advantage to the "vast majority of lay people". I sensed already a troll from your posts earlier, but you were truly given a chance, sigh. And you have now been given instructions how to run TinyWall. I am not continuing anymore with you.

Sorry to tell you I am not a troll. Might send you a pri message just to let you know my friend.
And just because I posted my screen shots of not being able to install your program does not make me a troll. I always was able to do a workaround to install it but I use a program that reverts my computer back to original condition and so if something doesn't work I just reboot. Like I said the standard install took away my internet connection and I found a work around. All I am saying is that this program is not for the standard public at this time. Only for computer experts, unless you want a huge amount of tech support e-mails.

I downloaded the install file, and the upgrade to 2.1.8 went smoothly, all settings and exceptions retained. Perhaps he is not doing the update through the app yet to make sure all is well before promoting widespread updates?

In my case that is the only option, because AppGuard must be put to install mode and then does not protect my computer. So I always disconnect from internet before the installation phase. If the maintenace tab update works or not, only Karoly Pados = ultim, the developer can answer. Or other users who have updated their program through that. Myself I have never even allowed TinyWall to connect out.

To the other poster. Even if this thread is "betatesting" TinyWall, the program is a mature firewall program and a good one and has not been beta for years. But yes, it is not for everyone, only for people who can handle a connections blocking firewall and able then to whitelist what needs be done. When I in the near future will update avast AV to get the safezone browser that is now supposed to be free for users, I will most likely put TW to 'Allow outgoing' mode, just to be sure the update will go smoothly.

Exactly!!! Not for normal internet users. Believe me I have tried them all since the internet began

Yes, I agree. It is only for intermediate - advanced users who understand what "blocks everything" means. And can figure out how to manually unblock what they want / need to using one of the multiple supported methods.

It doesn't allow preinstalled app MAIL.
I tried three times with learning mode and then back to normal mode , all others app from windows store seems to works but not mail.

How I can do ? It seems enabled in tw rules but doesn't work

Thank you in advance , I'd really appreciate if you could provide help

Excuse me man, I did detect but it only finds 3 things ( browser, malwarebytes free, and another one I don't remember ) .. And so I can't run many other things like preinstalled apps from w store ( using w10)

And I can't find the other 3 ways given .

    Sorry for bothering

Thank you, i'll try as soon as I can reinstall it, because windows / surface crashed. Maybe due to toolwiz . Now am doing a clean start.

But reading the previous comments , I am wondering if it worth it, because I am not an expert , I can't manage port and other stuff. Just do learning mode hoping it works ( app mail didn't ). But I read it's dangerous.
Furthermore I don't know if I block something windows needs to not crash .

Windows won't crash because internet connection is blocked and won't work. So rest at ease.

It can get dangerous if something is allowed though as all we we who know how it works. I gave you a PM, but it is the only one I give and can because I am on W7. Try search what I told.

    Best wishes.

got it, i think the easier way is to click on the window.
but still mail metro app doesn't work. all the other metro apps yes

EDIT: another question: tw ,if you allow a program, automatically set it "udp tcp without restrictions". is this worse than windows firewall default settings?

    thank you

Windows Firewall allows outgoing connections, but not incoming by default, so it's worse IMO. I would only give this permission to a program that really needs it. "Outgoing only" works for the most.

Yeah I imagined that, fortunately I reset them meanwhile.
    Thank you.
For example the browser? W defender? Apps like Twitter? Sandboxie?
Uhm maybe for me it's better to stay with wf , instead of messing up.

But wait. Actually I wanted a firewall controll to set restrictions to outgoing traffic, Since wf allows everything to go out. maybe I have no advantage to allow all outgoings so. Or I don't get it

How is a process that operate in promiscuous mode affected by TinyWall settings? Does it bypass the TinyWall/WFW altogether? Thanks

I have no idea. I did search google or duckduckgo yes, sounded like some sex thing at first.
Remember TinyWall at least at current stage is just a Windows firewall controller. But a very good one.
If WF can't block such things, then neither can TW.
