Is it possible to implement a feature so that EIS does not need to restart PC in order to finish self update?

It seems that EIS has conflict with WordPress software. Every time I launch the software, EIS presents firewall alert, then 2 seconds later, a behavior alert. Then that behavior alert freezes. I restarted the laptop to bring everything in order again.

Out of curiosity, do you have your EIS firewall settings configured to prompt on unknown applications' outbound connections? or is it set to the default of allowing outbound?

Next time you get a behavior alert for WP, click on the "view details" and post a screen shot of that. I suspect the alert is being generated for something other than WP software itself. Like perhaps the installer dropped a "nasty" on your PC.

Yes, I configured EIS to alert me on unknown applications' outbound connection.
I couldn't. The alert just freezes. If I click on its screen, it would generate a Windows error saying that it is not responding.

I asked because your issue sounded similar to a bug I reported to Emsisoft support in the middle of February. With that bug, if you set EIS to prompt on outbound connections from unknown apps, occasionally, the product's UI will become completely unresponsive requiring a reboot (it's somehow linked to the way it shows prompts for behavior and firewall rules with unknown apps). It might not be the same issue, but it sure sounds similar.

I was told after submitting the ticket and providing debug info that it would likely be fixed in an upcoming beta release, but I haven't seen any mention of it on the changeblog. My last contact with Emsisoft was Feb 16, so I'd hope it'd be fixed sometime soon as I haven't had the product installed since.

Oh... Okay, thanks for this info! This might really be a bug.

Sure thing. Like I said, it might not be the /same bug/, but it certainly sounds really similar. It might be worth opening a ticket w/Emsisoft support (assuming you haven't yet) so they can look into it.

I have a question regarding the recent results by AV-C in regard to Emsisoft. I realize there was a large portion labeled User Dependent and that AV-C uses default settings. In file guard the default setting is set to alert. Is this where all of this comes from.

The reason I ask is that I enabled PUP to quarantine with notification. I do trust Emsisoft. In this scenario would it have put most of this in the blocked category thus raising the bar a bit. And not making it appear skewed.

IIRC it were behavior blocker popups, because the cloud didn't know the samples yet. In general AVC considers everything where the user has the potential to pick the wrong answer a user decision and only gives half the points, even if the recommended and default action is to quarantine.

Latest version of EIS/EAM 11.5.1.6247 is not updating. Emsisoft on their forum indicated they are aware of problem and working on it.

This update causing problems with a blank EAM GUI screen appearing at boot time shortly after Win desktop initializes. See my posting in the Emsisoft forum EAM section.

Do not do the reinstall as Emsisoft mod recommended! It doesn't eliminate the problem.

If you have this problem, just open the EAM main GUI from your EAM/EIS desktop toolbar icon and the blank screen will be overlaid with the proper EAM screen. Then close the GUI screen and the blank screen is gone.

    -EDIT-

The current solution to this problem, if you're affected, is to uninstall EAM/EIS and reinstall.

Warning! Do not import any exported settings created prior to this current release after you reinstall. Doing so will result in the GUI screen issue reappearing. In other words, you'll have to entered all your previous custom settings manually in this current release.

Working good here, but noticed it is now running a third process, a2start. Is this correct that a2start should be running all the time.

a2start.exe is now pre-loaded at startup so that when you try to open the GUI from the icon on your desktop, or from the System Tray icon, it opens almost instantly.

Yup, both my wife and I have this blank screen issue. Waiting for fix which Emsisoft says should be soon. In mean time only takes a second to get rid of annoying screen. I am assuming that the excellent protection of EIS is the same, I asked that at the Emsisoft forum but never got a reply.

Given the fact that Emsisoft hasn't elaborated further on this issue, I would sat it is safe to assume that the fix for this issue is to uninstall your current ver. of EAM or EIS and then reinstall this latest release. Just heed the warning I posted previously in reply #146.

Tip - you can export your current settings prior to uninstall if there are numerous changes made to the default settings. They will be stored as a series of .ini files. You can print those out and use as a -EDIT- general reference when you reinstall, i.e. old whitelist settings, etc..
