Bouncing between Norton, Kaspersky, and ESET. Not really happy with any of them.

I knows how you feel. I am tired of searching and Emsisoft is the way to go. Light, protection is outstanding and the ongoing support is priceless.

I haven't used an antivirus for more than 5 years but I voted for Microsoft. MSE was the last AV I used real time and if I was to go back to using one, I would use Windows defender. Nothing to ponder about. It works great with Sandboxie, never an issue.

Tencent is risky and be-careful. I will not install it anymore. During its install it install it drops many unwanted "QQ" modules or files and they have bad virustotal rating as adware and PUP and spyware.

because of these hidden packages, is why several AVs flag tencent installer as malware or PUP

Who would have thought MS would lead so far. In all fairness, they are doing well and there seems to be shift in perception. Detection results are important but usability and simplicity with no bloat or fancy features seems to be what the users want. This could also be due to the rise of HMPA, MBAE and EMET in that it completes the native OS security mitigation features. Major all one suites or pro versions with fancy features are no longer a necessity to achieve strong security. Who would have thought... Simplicity and effective security is very much possible.

Still my favourite of all time would be Avira 8 lol. After that they all seem to went downhill imo. Yes it was different era, but new types generation of malware and exploits changed the landscape forcing change among vendors to include bells and whistles to combat the effectiveness of malware and exploits. I would never of dreamt of using Windows defender or Windows security essentials back then on W7,Vista and probably laughed at those who did. Now i find it acceptable.

    regards.

If I had to use one...Windows Defender. It has exploit mitigations enabled and it doesn't install crap extensions or inject insecure code into browsers.

Bitdefender AV+ 2016 on Windows 10 x64 Pro. Not had any issues with it at all & is light on the system.
