Thanks Alex, I did a minor test drive yesterday and something very annoying showed up, I got a yellow popup bubble telling me a PUP was blocked. This popup just came back over end over again, slowing down the computer to a crawl. Finally I did open the GUI and saw the infection there and that could remove it. I rather see this information in the popup bubble, being able to remove it when the warning comes, or it will be a endless loop for less experienced users. Or by all means, remove it automatically if Sophos are sure it is malware. If possible, some more support from your cloud for unknown files would be appreciated, newer malware takes over the computer far to easy right now. /E
Thanks for the heads up! I passed this on to the product developers so they can work on fixing this issue. Let us know if there are any other issues so we can perfect this product, or if you have any ideas to make it better. And if you ever want to troubleshoot a problem back and forth with support, you can post on the official support forum here.
Should probably start a new thread as it is no longer in beta but I am really impressed with this. Updated to 1.0.3 today and it performs great. I had some browsing slowdowns with the beta but not with the release version. Very fast, unobtrusive and also free. Works great alongside Hitman Pro Alert (which is now a Sophos product).
Also updated today all my machines (5 pcs) to 1.0.3 it seems browsing is faster too, i wonder whats been changed in their changelog
Sophos Home for Mac Update 1.1.3 Our new release for Mac will be a staged rollout starting today. The rollout will take approximately one week. If the update is available for you, it will automatically update. You can also check in Sophos Menu > Update Now. Fixes: · Repetitive threat reporting for invalid locations: When a threat was backed up to Time Machine, users would get multiple notifications of threats detected at invalid locations, typically ‘/’. These notifications will now stop. There is no threat to the user (because of Time Machine location) and if the threat is restored, Sophos Home will clean it up accordingly. · Mac full disk scan does not respect exclusions: A full disk scan in Sophos Home (started locally or remotely in the cloud) will now respect exclusions specified by the user, which aligns with what the Windows version was already doing.
As it currently stands, you do still need to log into the online management dashboard to changes settings.
I've just re-installed and the browsing is a lot faster. If you want to get the latest release to re-install go into dashboard and just add a computer so that Sophos download the latest installer. No need to create a separate Sophos ID, unless you want access to their forum. After having created the requisite account I still couldn't download from the downloads section because they wanted some product verification code or something. I was ready to forget about Sophos until I realised adding a PC downloads the installer. They are obviously used to dealing with IT bods and not Joe Public. Alex, I think you would get more users if you made the offline installer available on download sites and asked users to create a dashboard account at the end of the install. In reality, there's no need for a dashboard account unless you want to change website filters and/or add exceptions. How many people customise?
Thanks for the feedback langh. It's definitely something we're looking into, having the registration after the download, instead of first. It's what a lot of users are more used to, including me. The reason it's set up the way it is currently, is because the dashboard is the central hub of the whole operation and we want people to get logged into their dashboard at the start, then they can decide which computers to add to their umbrella of protection. We want them to feel the management capabilities from the get go. However, if we do end up changing to download first, register second, I will definitely spread the word on Wilders. In terms of the dashboard, we are finding that actually a lot of users like the dashboard and the custom settings, especially those with kids or computer illiterate family members or friends. It's just nice to be able to make sure they're protected, without having to worry about them disabling certain filters or protections.
Anyway to install it with Webroot SecureAnywhere already installed? Don't feel like having to remove Webroot when they should be fine running togethor
Hi: It also has incompatibility with secureaplus as sophos ask for its uninstall. Also more tweaking options should be added and also the option to delete all added to. I tried it yesterday on a bunch of malwares and had to delete the detected ones one by one. Also adding whitelist option to edit the web-filter right there when it blocks a site that I do not want it to block. otherwise its an great peace of software.
Also the web filters does it work on all browsers or only the standard 3 like IE, chrome and firefox? I need to know because I want to use other browsers.
sorry wanted to say great peace of software. my mistake. Fixed my mistake. thank you for reminding me.
Does Sophos use .dll injection to inject into vulnerable applications as part of their mitigation? I recently discovered that WSA prevents Eset from injecting into Web applications. I discovered it when using Process Explorer to make sure Eset, and Webroot were injecting into firefox successfully. Webroot's Identity Shield was preventing Eset from injecting it's .dll into firefox, and other vulnerable applications. There was no noticeable conflict between Eset, and Webroot. Most users would never know of the conflict if they did not know what to look for. I reported it to Webroot, and they informed me they are working on a fix. Since Sophos now uses Surfright's mitigations for exploits I figure they are injecting into vulnerable web apps, if not i'm sure they will be soon. Use Process Explorer, or Process Hacker to make sure Sophos, and Webroot are each successfully injecting into vulnerable web apps. Can anyone confirm whether Sophos is suppose to inject into vulnerable web apps? I have not used it in quite some time. If Sophos does not inject into web apps it will not be a problem.
I like how this anti-virus provides excellent endpoint protection, for the cost of nothing, I also like how the interface is constructed as minimal as possible and without advertisements, but my goodness, this thing has way too many system entries. I mean I know I don't have much room to nitpick, since it is provided for free, but If there is one thing that bothers me, it's definitely this... Background processes: Performs virus scanning and disinfection functions > Sophos Anti-Virus - = Takes up the most ram (100 to 200 + MB) Sophos Administrator Service > Sophos Anti-Virus status reporter Sophos AutoUpdate Service Sophos Endpoint Security and Control (32-bit) Sophos Home User Interface (32-bit) - = Only when GUI is open Sophos MCS Agent Service Sophos MCS Client Service Sophos Web Control Service Sophos Web Intelligence (1) Sophos Web Intelligence > Sophos Web Filter (2) Sophos Web Intelligence Service (3) Programs and Features: Sophos Anti-Virus Sophos AutoUpdate Sophos Management Communications System Startup: Sophos Endpoint Security and Control (3) > Conhost > Proxy Configuration > Sophos Endpoint Security and Control
What I don't like: - online management console - browsing slowdowns - autodelete without quarantine - no download without registration - warning from the windows security center while sophos is updating Please change it because I want to try it again.
Apparently it does https://community.sophos.com/products/sophos-home/f/144/p/74169/287272#287272 I agree with you Scott Krautkramer when you say we need to make this more known to our users. I work with the Marketing on Sophos Home and we're trying to do just that. I do want to make it clear though that Sophos Home does have HIPS/zero day protections. It's a combination of signature and behavioral based protections like you find in Sophos Cloud. Patrick MacGyver thanks for helping to clarify that. Good quote.
