    I have always used Chrome to download SBIE and SmartScreen will analyse something already downloaded on execution, as elapsed mentioned it is system wide, the browser doesn't matter. I've just downloaded SBIE v5.09.1 beta and presumably because the installer is signed, SmartScreen ignored it this time.

    No, SmartScreen is not UAC, it is not going to give you a popup for running all your programs. The *only* time you will see a popup is when you try to run something with low reputation. I'm not sure why you can't understand this.

    Hmm, strange.

    Apparently YouTube links to tests on specific products are not allowed here, since link removed above by moderators.

    But YouTube links to tests that are pure advertising due to being made by the vendor themselves - those are allowed, since link approved by moderators in Ransomware Protection thread (https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/ransomware-protection.382452/page-5)

    Doesn't make sense.

    Oh, well - I guess people must do a Bing or Google search instead.

    1. Its for now only on some companies to be tested out, will be broadly available later this year, it has still to be decided in which versions of Windows.
    2.Settings>Update and Security>Windows Defender>Real-Time protection if enabled it will start on boot.

    Can't complain here, about PUP.

    * OpenCandy
    * Several keygens
    * Dark patterns
    * Facebook dinohead
    and other samples successfully tested with Windows Defender. Nothing is perfect but to say it does nothing is wrong. As all AV it'S depending on reputation, especially if you disable cloud protection and then complain it not detects everything.

    I think it's a waste of money nowadays.

    Yes, a huge waste of money of course. Each Free and Paid for AV/AM are exactly the same, there's no difference what so ever, that's why I pay obviously.
    (Yes, I read the article, I just had fun at the title.)

    Most of the free products want users to upgrade to a paid version. Microsoft has an interest in including free protection because everyone says Windows is insecure and that is not the image they want. Most products release updates multiple times a day, and the users complain if these companies take weekends off. Yet nobody wants to pay these people. You get what you pay for, and I will stick with the paid solutions.

    My gripe with the article is that it asks a question that I do not feel it answers. Just enough to start an endless and pointless debate...
