Surfing annoyance: 1. Go to website to read article or forum post 2. Click link within article with scroll wheel button 3. Immediately takes you to that content in a new tab, instead of loading in the background I would like to finish what I am reading first, then read the linked information. On forums this is particularly frustrating when the link is to another post within the forum. Now instead of one click it takes 2: 1. right click then 2. select open in new tab I want the scroll wheel click or center mouse button click to "always load in background tab". Is there a plugin or extension for this ? Can't find it in settings anywhere. Google Chrome or Opera, this behavior just started since the last week of 2015. rrrh1(arch1)
I think center click should always be open in new background tab. Left click open in same window. I get annoyed when the center click action changes within the same website. You never know if you will get a new focused tab or a new backgrounded tab. Tried a couple of extensions but they were more annoying than the normal behavior. I have discovered the deal the site is using a javascript to get credit for every click on the page. Thus changing the behavior of the center click. Same thing the script is overriding the default behavior. I guess it will be two clicks from now on. rrrh1(arch1)
@rrrh1 There are some sites where you have to right click then select open new tab. I don't know if there are are any addons which provide a solution, as I've enver looked for any as I perfer not to use addons.
rrrh1, Can you direct us to a post where you see this behaviour? I don't see it in Wilders. Firefox browser.
@Brian K It is just certain websites. It's not an issue with the majority of sites. I can't think of an affected website off the top of my head.
@rrrh1 I use scroll button to open links in new tab and don't remember autofocus to new tab ever happening. Can you please provide at least one example site to test it?
Been doing some more testing: Firefox 38.5.2 ESR normal behavior Opera 34.0.2036.47 tab opens up front with focus... Google Chrome 47.0.2526.106 tab opens up front with focus... Opera 12.17 normal behavior Usually if javascript is off then normal behavior returns. Seems to be chromium based browsers only right now. I don't use IE and did not test with it, since also tested when possible in Linux, Windows 7 and XP in a VM. Website: http://www.infoworld.com/author/Woody-Leonhard/ try to open more than one link on the page in background tab... action changes back and forth on this website. Forum: http://windowssecrets.com/forums/forum.php try to open any sub forum in background tab... tab comes to the front and you lose your place. These are 2 examples that I found rather quickly... Wilders Security is just fine, no problems here... This is a recent change to several forums / websites I occasionally visit, in the last 14 days. Tried a Linux live distro with Chrome just to be sure windows hadn't became sick... This is really annoying especially when the action changes within the same website. rrrh1(arch1)
I made some test and on my system it's like this: Infoworld site: when I click on first link it opens in background. After that all clicks are blocked by Chrome built-in popup blocker. I tried this few times and always get same results - first click OK, all following clicks are blocked. Windows Secrets forum: I couldn't reproduce a problem. I could open subforums and threads in new background tab.
