I have decided to drop a resident AV for a period and go with other security means. I would like to get input from others that have gone this route. Currently I am using Sandboxie free with a few restrictions, Zemana Antilogger Pro, Winpatrol Paid-Pro, and SpywareBlaster free. My primary browser is FF latest version. Add ons are HTTPS Everywhere, U Block and No Script. For scanners I normally use HitmanPro, Malwarebytes, SAS Pro, Norton Power Eraser and TDSS Killer. ADW Cleaner and Junkware Removal Tool also used occasionally.Shadow Defender is used periodically. My browsing habits are considered safe.
Any suggestions from anyone as to changes or additions?
    Thanks!

I would add a software to create system image for backup and also regularly backup personal data.

Topguy, its very easy to go without an AV if you get in the habit of sandboxing most files and programs that run in your computer. Thats what I do. I have Sandboxies paid version, that makes sandboxing files automatic and very little thinking is required to sandbox files but you can do that also with the free version and do it comfortably by getting used to navigating to files in your computer using a sandboxed Windows explorer.

To make it easier to run a sandboxed explorer, you can create a sandboxed shortcut for explorer and place it in your taskbar, that way, to open the sandboxed explorer all you have to do is click the shortcut.

My everyday browser is Firefox, I don't have any other browsers installed in my computers other than IE and Firefox. I am a huge believer in NoScript. Why? I have been using NoScript and Adblock plus for as long as I used Sandboxie and I can tell you, I never seen anything acting like malware while browsing. Never. And I am not a saint. I go to the same sites that I used to go when I used to get infected but that don't happen no more. In my opinion, while browsing, NoScript is the one blocking any and all potential problems that I may encounter in my every day browsing. Sandboxie is like a safety net but NoScript and even Adbñlock plus, deserve a lot of credit.

I stream sports almost every day and this are sites that without the combo of SBIE, NoScript and Adblock plus, they would be very very dangerous but instead, they are totally tamed, totally harmless, because of the combo (sort of similar to what you are using).

You mentioned Shadow defender. I also use SD, I hardly ever test new programs and usually use SD to test a change in the PC, to see how things work afterward. And since I don't have any on demand scanners installed in my computers, its rare but sometimes I use it for installing HMP or MBAM in Shadow mode to run a scan.

I would add MBAE (free version is enough) or EMET.

I change only a few things from default. Under General, I untick "Reload the current tab only", that way when I temporarily allow scripts in a page, none of the tabs that are open but the one I am viewing gets reloaded. Under Embeddings, I untick "Show placeholder icons" and tick "Collapse blocked objects". Making this two changes cleans webpages, webpages don't look broken or like they are missing somethings. Make things look better. In Embeddings, I also tick to Forbid FRAMES and IFRAMES. And in Notifications, I untick "Show message about blocked scripts", doing that get rids of the strip that tells about what NoScript is doing. To me the strip is annoying.

The whitelist, I clear everything that comes default and make my own white list based on the sites that I go to, and only white list what is required to do whatever I do in those sites. And maybe even more important, I black list most of the rest of domains that load scripts in this sites. Most of this domains are usually trackers or nasty like the one that you can read about in the link.

No, I never tried it as I haven't had a reason to. Adblock plus and NoScript have worked so well for me with Firefox and Sandboxie for more than six years that I dont want to try aything else. I read the complains about ABP but they dont apply in my computers. I know some SBIE users are using UB and all is well but in the past month or so, I read two reports in which UBO is conflicting with SBIE.

Like you Bo, I used to use noscript and adblock and later adblock edge for years in FF and Palemoon in Sandboxie and no criticisms here. Decided to try uBlockO with just basic filtering and used it along with NoScript. Decided to go one step further and added Dynamic filtering (able to config. my rules and my filters) in which being able to block scripts and frames and noop (allow) certain sites where needed. This is the only addon I used in both FF and Palemoon and all run excellent in Sandboxie. So my question is where are the reports that UBO is conflicting with SBIE ? You got this old wolf curious.

Wolf, I didnt know it was going to be you but I knew someone was going to ask. :)

But regardless, I think Ublock is working fine along Sandboxie for most people in most systems.

I glanced thru those threads and it seems some have a problem. On the other hand Peter 2150 and Graig@Invincea don't have a problem running uBlockO in sandboxie as well as myself. Also as a tip I don't use Direct Access for UBO in Sandboxie. I prefer to use Quick Recovery, the extension and extension data folders. That way if there is a change which i want to keep will use Move and Replace option, if not with use delete to delete the folders in Sandboxie. Works quite well. Anyhow, whatever works for you and you are satisfied, all is well and the same here. (hope you're going for the Vikes tomorrow)

Ublock does so much more than ABP, and it doesn't hog ram like ABP. You should play around with it some day :)

Thanks everyone for your replies. One more question: Do both MBAE and HitmanPro Alert require templates to function correctly with Sandboxie? I did try HMPA and it interfered with the Sandbox opening.

Don't know about HMPA but MBAE requires a template in Sandboxie. http://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=22080&hilit=MBAE template Since I'm in Win 7 64 bit I use the bottom template re post (by btm » Thu Nov 12, 2015 9:29 pm) in Sandboxie for MBAE.

The template for HMPA is one line. It's already in Sandboxie

I have dropped AV's back in 2008, the last one I used was Avira. Sadly enough AV's have become more and more bloated and less trustworthy (privacy risks) over the years. I think your current setup is quite good, you only miss anti-exploit. I also rely on sandboxing + HIPS + VirusTotal. The only problem is when you need to scan big files, VirusTotal is no option then.

Went almost a whole year with lightweight but effective 360IS until Mr Crypto paid a visit and reminded me why i always relied on HIPS with XP so out-the-door went that project and have been AV free again since with absolutely no sneak attack penetrations. This is largely in part due to the wonderful projects now in ongoing developments by @novirusthanks + Bouncer developer Both!

Integration of one or the other of those inventions or as is been my normal practice, BOTH! working in tandem with SandboxIE + ShadowDefender (On-Demand Only) all WITHOUT ANY AV.

It's a shame what happened to the AV industry, why can't they be as lightweight as MBAM and SAS? And why do they don't respect privacy and think they need to do it all? Avast and AVG are way too bloated and I don't trust 360 and Baidu. Especially Avira could have been great but they had to ruin it. I won't even talk about the others.

I like Emsisoft products. In fact I'm using it too (Both EAM and EIS). But personally speaking for a paranoid person on security, Emsisoft is not for them. You basically can't play around with it. There is not settings for you to tweak around. They're like the AI-type of AV.
But the protection ability wise, I have no doubt about it. It's great and it's decent. General user wouldn't have any issue with it I strongly believe.

I believe they violate privacy to make profit to use it for development of their free products.

And yes Emsisoft is not for tweaking! :)
