    Hi Patrick.

This thread here has worked well, and while not as good as a separate forum, it has worked.

I'm not knocking this thread Peter, in fact
I use this thread frequently myself.
I have always supported the thread and tried help many people on this forum directly. The issue here is the hosting problem and the thread thing is incidental and to add some context.

Absolutely. It is been very much appreciated all along although not so widely mentioned but @sdmod has really been super consistent the whole way with his always-on approach along with top notch assistance. I don't know many who have devoted so much time n effort like that to the promotion of SD and resolving of SD issues for ALL dedicated users. And just like this same application, has stood the test of time and then some, and continues to. :thumb:

Many many thanks Parick and hopefully things will get worked out on that hosting matter to your favor when all is said and done.

    That was me :D
Turns out Tony responds to emails pretty fast. Took less than an hour. He said SD doesn't work with drive letters A and B, and that the trial version is actually the full version already.
Anyway, I bought 4 copies. It's great, and lightweight. I can even game while on SD and it doesn't affect performance. (I benchmarked everything in and off SD).

    Thank you anon.

For those who wish to make use of this giveaway, be careful not to install the software informer program that you are prompted with after the shadow defender successful installation and activation. Also untick the bookmark that will be placed into internet explorer.

    regards.

Yes; Giveaway of the Day offerings must be activated within the giveaway window to obtain the free license.

You have to install it during the giveaway offer, due to TheMida (protection) wrapper protection...
After that, if you can dig up the serial number, you can update the program for a LIFETIME.
Unless this giveaway is some special version, pre-registered without a serial or something..
The earlier giveawayoftheday giveaway from 2013 had an serial, which seems to be a lifetime license, since it still works for the latest version too. ;-)

Well purchased two licenses the day just before this offer went up. So in hindsight bad timing. But not a bad investment to support the developer(s), we ended up taking the giveaway offer for a third computer and I shared it with co-workers and friends that were interested. Thanks for the heads up on the offer. I forget to check that site sometimes.

Sandboxie + Firefox was too unstable on windows 10, so ended up switching everyone over to chrome browser for the time being. Running Anti-Exploit (Free) and have a couple other plans for hardening the systems further including the recent switch to limited user accounts. The lifetime license for sandboxie will be kept and i'll probably be reincorporated as a secondary layer once the compatibility issues are resolved. That should put about three layers of virtualization between the internet and our system. Also dialed back the privacy a bit more since these systems are for school research and basic browsing. I've dedicated a specific machine for my private browsing needs that is not connected with my wireless network. Also setting up a raspberry pi ad-block DNS service for my home network and intend to block as much advertising and hopefully windows tracking.

If you read the installer it says you don't get lifetime updates. You'll eventually have to buy it.

"No updates" is generally the case with the GAOTD offers. It just depends on the software whether or not updates are needed. For a system utility like Shadow Defender updates may be necessary to maintain compatibility at some point. In other words, you're correct :)

It seems you don't get a serial, you just have to install with their installer.

I'm happy to say that members at The Official Shadow Defender Forum are able to post again after being cut off from the hosting server over the Christmas period. I don't know what happened...members could login but not post.

Yes I'm aware of that. We have been using shadow defender on a windows 8 computer for a couple years now. But since upgrading almost all of our computers to windows 10, I needed a quick fix to hold me over while sandboxie works on compatibility. Much like after dropping your smartphone, you might put your sim in an old dumb phone, until you can get the store to buy a new phone. It would have been nice to get the license for free for these computers, as I'm still debating whether or not I want to pony up the money considering we have a large family network. Obviously, having lifetime licenses for sandboxie that continue to get updates is more fiscally conservative and while I don't oppose support developers, my own financial problems have to be my priority. I consider this a draw, since I bought licenses for the most urgent systems, but caught the deal for secondary devices.

You can't add a password on the trial version.

Just started to trial SD. Am I to understand that unless one commits the changes the shadow mode doesn't continue through the next boot? i.e. If I continue shadow mode on the next boot it loses all the changes from the previous shadow mode? Is there any way to keep the changes through several boots without committing them to disk?

    Thanks.

Each time you enter shadow mode after booting, you get a new shadow session. There is no way of carrying over changes from one shadow session to the next except by explicitly committing them, which makes them permanent. Any changes made while in shadow mode will be lost when rebooting unless they are explicitly committed first.

I use a clipboard manager called clipx, and i'd like to somehow exclude it from shadow mode. Is this possible? Where is the clipboard stored in win 7?

It looks that ClipX as other similar software has only access to clipboard system history so it can't be stored in specific place/file...it strores information in temporary memory so you can't exclude "clipboard" in SD. More below

    -----------
    edit:
It's not so easy :)...ClipX in fact has access to clipboard but...as you want...it can store history of clpboard in its own specific file/files with extension .clx. You can save history (where you need) using RMB from systray. So...you can exclude created CLX files :)

    Hello to all,
I've decided after some thought and regret, not to continue with 'The Official Shadow Defender Forum'.
Originally my goal was to support Shadow Defender users and envisioned a small forum with lively debate etc where members could share information with each other and help in some way with the development of this little one man program.
I set up the smf forum by buying the domain shadowdefenderforum.com and using a free webhosting and with permission from Tony (the developer) started to run the forum as the official forum.
I've always been a big fan of Shadow Defender, which is an absolutely unique and very useful software. I've followed it from the very beginning.
The forum, however has never really lived up to my expectations of it regarding useage. The throughput has been poor and inconsistant with the most 'action' happening around the time of a new release or giveaway. The member to member dialogue (which a forum needs to remain healthy) has been almost non-existent
Recently my free webhosting provider really messed things up by nobbling my ability to ftp into my site, (which causes an admin a lot of difficulties) and then they became unable to be contacted (even by email) without committing to upgrade to a paid service. This is the second time that this has happened to me with free webhosting services and I had to move the entire site last time, which was awkward and time consuming.
I would advise anyone that has a site of value to themselves not to use free webhosting as, even if they do not mess you around in the beginning, it is just a matter of time. You might have the site up for over a year and then they start.
I've been researching starting and transferring the forum to a paid site but after some consideration, (to me) it's just not worth it.
I know that the unofficial thread here in this forum has been fairly lively and more attractive than my own forum as it is a multi topic site and I have used and supported it myself over the years.
I still intend to input where I can and can be pmd on this Wilders. I hope to remain in contact with Tony.

Best wishes to all members who have supported me over the years.

    'Long live Shadow Defender!'

    Patrick
