    • From the description :
      "Conflict-free
      — can operate in conjunction with other anti-viruses to enhance the protection of your computer."
The Katana technologies are incorporated into the anti-virus and security space products.

It has been released today, few hours back. So, no time for tests and reviews... :)

    Interesting indeed:

Traditional behavioural analysers monitor the requests malicious programs make of various system resources. But what if a malicious program, having infiltrated the browser, makes no requests of the system and simply modifies, for example, the screen you use to interact with your bank?

Appears to be similar to HMP-A and SpyShelter.

    I thought it was free.

Now this is what I'm talking about! Finally a new standalone HIPS/BB. I quickly checked it out, the GUI seems nice and clean, but it should be quicker to access, I really don't understand GUI designers. But other than that, I'm very excited, because I was looking for a HIPS which monitors the most important areas. I think this might actually be a winner.

Maybe, but I can't justify it costing 2X Dr Web AV (which includes this module)....

    +1

    Edit:
I think they are still tinkering with its price. Although the cart page shows a price of 26 Eur, in other places price is shown as 13 Eur, same as the AV.

I didn't look into that, but yes, the price should then be a bit cheaper. But I have to say that much of my excitement has gone away, there are too many things not right with this tool. I don't get it, if you're a HIPS developer, you shouldn't need a guy like me to point this stuff out, I'm getting a bit tired of this. What I noticed so far:

    - Apps launch a bit slower, this should never happen with HIPS.
    - It keeps phoning home, even though Auto Update and DR Web Cloud is turned off.
    - No specific anti-spy rules, similar to Zemana and SpyShelter for example.
    - No easy way to trust or restrict apps, this should be standard.
    - No way to make "allow or block" rules, is this a joke?

It's nice to see new competitor...for me Katana looks similar to ThreatFire in such words
"Traditional behavioural analysers are based on predefined rules describing the behaviour of legitimate programs. Such rules are well known to criminals. Dr.Web Katana acts differently. This product analyses the behaviour of each running program in real time by comparing it with the reputation information stored in the Dr.Web cloud which is constantly being updated."
But it's a bit strange when we compare this statement with Rasheed's screenshot (post #9) where we can see strict rules like in Mamutu.
So...where is this new revolutionary technology?

It's a mix between a BB and HIPS. If you use the cloud feature it will probably decide if some app is malicious or not, but you can also put it in paranoid mode, it will then alert about all actions. But it will not allow you to make rules, can you believe this? But you shouldn't even bother with it, SpyShelter is way better, especially for people who like to be in full control.

Because I image regularly & retain 3-4 months of prior images, I am not very interested in any additional real-time security apps such as Katana, even after they iron out the bugs & pricing. DrWeb's *best* (IMHO) security app is AdInf -- a thorough-going file integrity checker -- & it runs on-demand only. THAT one I use.

Yes...you can :) It's not obvious and I've found it by accident - we have 3 predefinied protections levels but if you will make only one change in settings on one of them you suddenly will get another one - "user settings".

Yes correct, but it still won't allow you to remember any rules, so it will keep asking you the same questions. And actually, it's not a BB at all, because it will let you make decisions yourself. So when they mention the BB, it's probably related to the cloud and the exploit blocker.
