Day 29 July with my new Win10 PrivateFW was not working but now it is !
Privacyware does not change the exe file so probably something changed on O.S. with last massive update.
Looking at PrivateFW web page in fact there is a Windows 10 compatibility
    http://www.privacyware.com/PF_support.html
and the * at the end of the page report this:

    *Windows 10 Support
For those experiencing challenges installing/operating Privatefirewall on Windows 10 (either via upgrade or new system), consider the following:

    - Uninstall Privatefirewall. Reboot system.
    - Apply right mouse to Privatefirewall installer 7.0.30.3 and select Run as administrator. Install and reboot.

Privatefirewall is not formally certified for Windows 10, but in most cases, it will operate as expected on Windows 10 systems. In others, it may be necessary to specify the Win 8 compatibility setting. To do so, go to Start, All apps, Privatefirewall 7.0, apply right mouse and select Properties, Select Compatibility tab, check Compatibility mode checkbox "Run this program in compatibility mode: Windows 8". Click Apply. Restart system.

I doesn't need running it in Win8 compatibility, it is running 100% with (seems) no issue at all
Is a good news for all PrivateFW user and I hope they will give us a new version as soon as possible

Tried it again & it installed ok this time but after a reboot It froze the system twice, once opening a rar file & the second time when I exited Dishonored. It might be conflicting with Exe Radar Pro.

I'm guessing that the GUI is still ugly as hell?

It is shame, that Privatefirewall has been discontinued, it was the only firewall I have ever liked, they asked for a sponsor, but noone is interested. :(

have you tried with PrivateFw in training mode (right click on the icon and choose training)? Put it in training some hours making all normal activityes prevent some conflict and issue especialy with the hips side, FW part of the program is less complicated.

greg the developer of this firewall is fantastic.I was having issues installing it and he would give me directions via email..top notch support and how many developers would contact you on such a personal level..real shame if he cant keep it going.

Yeah first thing I did was put it in training mode. The system was freezing for about a minute each time, uninstalled it & no more issues. I think it might have been a conflict with the hips in the firewall & exe radar pro, will uninstall exe radar pro & try it again.

Installed in Windows 10 Pro OK – apart from one freeze (oddly enough, while in Alarms & Clock app) PFW is working just fine.

    LOL :)
My only complaint about GUI was the first page where the columns for IPs are much too narrow so you can't read what you've allowed or didn't.
My other complaint about PFW was they don't log allowed traffic. It would be a great option to have and be able to turn on and off for selected rules.

I'm very picky when it comes to the GUI. The one from PW is horrible. But the GUI from Zemana and SpyShelter should also be improved a lot. This isn't one of their strong points, that's for sure.

Great news to hear that PFW "might" work with win10.Where there`s life there`s hope.

I think it`s excellent functionality far outstrips any cosmetic considerations and anyway I`ve kinda got to like that quirky GUI.

    Regards Eck:)

Just did the big fall update for windows 10 & it knocks out Private Firewall again, it warns you with a notification when the system boots after the upgrade that it doesn't work with this version of windows. Tried to reinstall it but it gives a error message saying you need to reboot to reinstall it. Restored back with reflect free to just before the upgrade & have deferred the upgrade till I know Private Firewall will work with it. The use of the firewall is more important to me than the upgrade.

SOLUTION: Keep PFW. Dump Win10. Revert => Win7. Life will be good.

I agree with Bellgamin and Peter2150 - just go back to 7 :)

    On the other hand,
Private IS supposed to work on Win10, though is not certified by Microsoft.
The idea of not rebooting when any firewall installs makes no sense to me.
You MUST reboot for the boot and/or system drivers to load. It's not an error.
Do a new install in Win7 and you will see a message to reboot. I did, several times.

OT: I think Private and Outpost are the only games in town these days for 7 and up.

I'll do a clean install of windows 10 in the next few days from the ISO I created from the media creation tool. Windows 10 warned after installing the fall update that PFW wasn't compatible with it. When I tried to reinstall PFW it failed at the end of the install saying I needed to reboot to install it, I did that & it gave the same message again.

I would have used Comodo firewall but that failed to install on a clean windows 10 install with error code 1603, did a search for that & tried changing the non unicode language to ENG US but still failed to install. All I'm looking for is a good free firewall with HIPS.

Yes, with last update (november update alias threshold aka Win10.1) PrivateFw disaperade, so people using it i suggest made a backup of your rules before update Windows 10, because at restart you will loose PFW completly.
Then i reinstall it and i face the same error and nedd to reboot, no way PFW working, so i reinstall it in compatibility mod and no isse, restore my old rules and now PFW is working perfectly !!!
What I don't like is that IT Software houses not intendend developing a decent FW+Hips for windows. Win 10 is out since August and security software house (not only Privacyware is in general) are sleeping.
Thanks god PFW is orking but will be great if they develop a new version 100% compatible for sure.

Slightly off topic question about Win7 and Private firewall:
Are any of you able to switch user and have the firewall intact? Or does the second user really have to make new rules?
And/or is there a way to install it for ALL users?

Outbound filter is not useful without infection, no economic margin for software companies, take the Windows firewall, it's enough.

No « HIPS » in a Windows 64 bits system since Vista ...

    To whom it may concern.

Following the instructions on this link solved the problem for me.

Please pay attention to the paragraph below and you should be fine.

I did a clean install yesterday from the updated windows 10 ISO & Private Firewall installed ok with no problems or error messages. It looks like MS are removing it during the upgrade & then blocking it from installing again unless you change compatibility setting.

    BUMP
I read in an old thread here that multiuser is supported. But it didn't work for me. So what's the state of that thing?
