Ohh, so it has been a problem before, did not know that. I guess you also mean that it now a days is nothing especially noticeable ?
In case anyone was following my problems with updates, Avira asked me to remove HitmanPro.Alert, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Adguard. I continued to have the issue and sent them the reports from their debug software. They suggested turning off Protect Processes from Unwanted Termination and Advanced Process Protection and this enabled updates again (I advised them of the content of this thread so they should have been aware that this does "fix" the issue). I asked what security ramifications this had and I wasn't particularly happy having these options disabled. I never got a reply to this so I requested and received a full refund. Needless to say I won't be revisiting their software solutions in the future. Thanks to anon though for being a great help and taking time out to help me
@ Avira, To solve the update problem, you have to look somewhere else. In my case, I had only Avira Pro and non of the above software. From my ticket, you already have my data (from Support Collector). Thanks for the feedback LemonJelly.
Turning of process protection from unwanted termination to succeed with updates reminds me of an old bug. Do you also encounter a high CPU load? Thank you for providing the technical data from your affected computers! This will help a lot to create a fix
Okay, this means the cause is something different. @LemonJelly + @anon: I wrote you a private message for further analyze.
@ Avira, The "Product settings are kept for up- and downgrades" it's good, why not an additional feature: "Backup and restore product settings" ?
not with all versions. some of the newer ones i have tested when i uninstall the launcher it also removes the actual program. also windows 10 on many machines is reporting avira as turned off. yes newest version, double checked it is turned on, tried a reinstall also a fresh windows 10 install. no luck still saying turned off and if i shut off avira in the gui and then turn it on it will then be okay for a while. eventually it will say its turned off again though.
Hi @anon - You could provide this feature to our product managers via Ideascales: https://avira.ideascale.com Best, Arthur
