Also, is there a user manual I can read? I don't know what some of the options are for.

@Cutting_Edgetech Crystal Security uses 4 engines:
    • Collective cloud (VirusTotal service via API)
    • Crystal cloud (in-house engine)
    • Heuristic analysis
    • Internal analysis
It is possible to turn on/off each engine. :)

    Regards,
    Kardo

@Cutting_Edgetech Currently there is no manual or FAQ section. I'll try to add it soon. If you have any question about specific option then feel free to ask here via this thread, PM or via email. There is also plan to add descriptions for each setting.

    Regards,
    Kardo

I just got a fatal error with Crystal Security that caused the application to crash. It looked as though Crystal Security was attempting to give me an alert a split second before the crash. I think what ever it was trying to alert me about caused the crash. I was working on flashcards using Anki application when it occurred, but I don't think that had anything to do with the crash. I'm using Windows 7X64 Ultimate. The following below was recorded in Crystal Security Log.

Could not find file 'C:\Users\achilles\AppData\Local\Temp\d-qhx8gi.dll'. at System.Windows.Forms.Control.MarshaledInvoke(Control caller, Delegate method, Object[] args, Boolean synchronous)

Cool. I noticed two things: Purging the whitelist removes added folders and zip files in my JDownloader\cfg folder like the downloadlist*.zip still get scanned even when the folder is whitelisted.

How do you get it to start minimized with windows without requiring me to give it admin rights?

    Hi,

Thank you for the interest. :)

Under Settings > General tab: disable "Start as Admin" and enable "Minimize on start-up". After that click "Apply" and restart Crystal Security.

    Kardo

    Hey there Kardo,

I uses this product awhile back and it was really good on system resources with a nice UI, but as usual I have doubts about it's authentication; if it's any good, malware or not? So again, this is what is stopping me:

    1.)
Classified as a malware on Virus Total (mostly unrated/unknown) and some user reviews don't recommend it
2.) Not recognize as an official anti-virus/anti-malware suite by Microsoft
3.) Unclear on what is and what it actually does to protect my PC in Real Time

Well, I'll just have to keep a good eye on it. And please reply back, thanks.

    Best regards,
    LimboSlam :)

Where did you get the file, last version of the installer is only flagged by Clam (which is known for horrid detection rate) ? Do you think malware will have a topic of 62 pages long and open topic in a security forum?

Really? I've been using Immunet v3.1 for longest time and have never knew of their supposedly bad ratings/detections.

Well, I just decided to use Panda Free AV because it's a known AV and it's really light a system resources. Yeah I compared the two and CS stays around 17-21K (to much in my opinion) while Panda is only 3-5K, now this was just in idle (background process). So I didn't bother looking at their resource results when doing an actual scan.

I didn't feel the need to as I want something that uses their resources wisely (when needed) and yet still does their job to in a accurate manner.

    Hi @LimboSlam

Thank you for the interest. :)
Crystal Security program is obfuscated and encrypted to protect source code. Most probably detection is caused because of the encrypted code. Many vendors already confirmed manually that Crystal Security is not malware and that detection is False Positive.

You can find Crystal Security download links by Softpedia.com, MajorGeeks.com, Comss.ru and many other sites.

Feedback about program from the following forums: Wilders Security, MalwareTips, Comodo Forums and so on. There are also many reviews about program: Softpedia, WindowsInstructed etc...
As far as I know it needs agreement between Microsoft and Developer to register program in Windows as Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware.
Program uses 4 engines to detect malware:
    1. Collective cloud: detection powered by VirusTotal via API
    2. Crystal cloud: In-house engine, some data stored on disk (good for offline usage)
    3. Heuristic analysis: In-house engine, detection based on byte pattern, one signature may detect different variants of the same malware
    4. Internal analysis: In-house engine, detection based on hash list
You can also activate Stealth Guard mode to allow only safe/known files. It means that when Stealth Guard is enabled and you download new file then it is blocked automatically. You can file adds to exclusion anytime.

    Overview of Crystal Security downloads.

    majorgeeks.com - 100 280
    softpedia.com - 18 684
    freewarefiles.com - 9 747
    comss.ru - 23 497
    dobreprogramy.pl - 27 096

Total: 179 304 + (downloads from official website and other websites)

    I hope it helps. :)

Thanks Kardo, this really helps. I will go ahead and give it another try on my Windows 7 machine. Yeah, before I was using it on Vista with an older laptop that's limited on RAM.

Oh, it might help if you change "Quick" under checkup to Quick scan and "Advance to Full Scan. I had a hard time figruing out if those were my scanning options or if they were anyway related to a malware scan, to me is sounded like what a cleaning tool would use for it's wording. Just a suggestion though. Thanks again. :thumb:

    Kardo,
can you check the behavior of "Restore" option in popup notification?
Whenever I press this button, the blocked file is not restored to its original location.

    Hi @siketa

Question: What is the default action for Unsafe files?

If it is Remove then Restore for detected file is not available. By default Action for Unsafe files is Block (Quarantine). I tested Eicar file and I restored file to original location successfully via notification.

Please check: Settings => Behavior => Action for Unsafe files.

If you change any setting then please do not forget to click on Apply button too.
    1. Same file is created/downloaded multiple times.
    2. Possible temporary bug in File Detection System.
    Regards,
    Kardo
