    Spybot S&D also a past favourite. but who uses it these days.

    Hostsman has definitely taken over as hosts manager of choice. the only advantage spybot has is encrypting the backup of the hosts file, but considering that hostsman has a much wider hosts file for protection and auto updating, not to mention other tools like umatrix, and ublock to further bolster defenses for online browsing etc.... this just end up making spybot S&D redundant.

    Yes it looked quite advanced, but it was intimidating. I was also quite happy with SSM, so there was no reason to switch. And yes, I remember Arovax Shield, it was a very simple "HIPS", sort of like WinPatrol. I used it for a while, it wasn't even that bad.
