Interesting article but was surprised by the Windows one. I have an Android mainly because of price and don't like the control of Apple. Don't know if this is the rigth section but would be interested on how the privacy issues change if you root an android. I am tempted to do it but lack the courage to do it.
I'm an Android user, but once they start selling phones with the full Windows OS (same as on newer Windows tablets and touchscreen laptops), then I might switch for familiarity and compatibility reasons. I did not like the Metro interface on my Windows 8.1 tablet because it required a password that I had to keep entering and couldn't automate, and because it would go to the "desktop" environment anyway whenever I launched something like Powerpoint, Firefox, or VLC, but of course using the desktop environment via touchscreen control was tough so I wish they improve that (I normally just use an external mouse and sometimes a keyboard too for anything extensive).
Personally, I use my devices as more than just phones, as if they're portable computers. That means my Android phone is rooted and iPad was jailbroken until I got sick of updates breaking everything (plus I barely use it enough to justify the bother). Windows Phone 8.1+ on the other hand has no equivalent to rooting or jailbreaking. The best you can do to my knowledge is to unlock the carrier and sideload apps... Therefore, I find Windows Phone very limiting in that regard, and will never have one as my main mobile device.
I've been using Windows Phone for a while and prefer it to the other options. I won't do Apple and Android is too customized by phone manufacturer and carrier. I don't feel I am missing anything as far as apps, but I am not a big social media person.
Android phones sold by Motorola are not very customized, the only social media app installed is Google+ and can be disabled. This also applies to Nexus phones, even more so (haven´t used them). For personal use, I would never use a Windows phone. Too boring to have the same OS in all devices.
LOL To each is own. I can understand that but I am really enjoying Cortana across the phone and a Windows 10 PC. Nice for tracking appointments and flights and such.
