i had never heard before that the avira program uses "Open SSL libraries".. that is kind of concerning.. why does it need "Open SSL libraries"?
Don't forget some function need encryption function actually avira has use openssl for a long time. it include their license in help files already
on my computer, after "update 12" was installed, there now seems to be a problem with the avira program's "sched.exe" process.. when i boot my computer, it is shown as using 187 mb, or 188 mb, of ram.. (the first time i noticed it, it was using 188 mb of ram, but, on subsequent reboots, it was shown as using 187 mb of memory).. after about 15 minutes or so, sched.exe's memory-usage drops back to something normal.. the first time i saw it drop back, it then was using 414 kb of memory, but it seems to be normal for "sched.exe" to use around "1064 kb" of memory (1 mb), which is what it is showing, now, on my computer.. incidentally, for some reason, once sched.exe's memory-usage shows as having been dropped back to normal, dropping back from 187 mb of memory-usage to 1 mb of memory-usage, windows "task manager" does not reflect that 186 mb of memory has been freed, at least not immediately.. i was going to uninstall the avira program because of sched.exe's using 188 mb of memory, which indicates that there is a problem with the program, and i didn't like a bug in the program burning up 188 of memory on my computer, but, when i was getting ready to uninstall the avira program, i noticed that sched.exe's memory-usage had dropped back to normal, so i didn't uninstall it.. update: i rebooted my computer, earlier, and "sched.exe" was only using about 29 mb of memory, that time, and, eventually, it dropped back to using 2.6 mb of memory.. update2: avira's "sched.exe" went back to using 188 mb of memory when my computer when my computer was booted, and i saw that repeatedly.. maybe i was wrong, before, when i thought that, one time, when i checked, it was only using 29 mb of memory?
While using Avira Free [15.0.12.408] I have been getting this application popup once or twice a day since 7/26. On another forum I found a number of other users with the same issue. One stated his problems began on the 24th. Initially he thought it was related to Windows update, because he had just caught up on his Microsoft patches. I have confirmed that this is the Avira product updater throwing this error. So far all I know we have in common is that we use Windows 7 and Avira. Any ideas? I have the exact same problem since the same date. I am also running Windows 7 and Avira Free 15.0.12.408 and Updater version 15.00.12.402.

Is anyone using this on Windows 10, and does it still have the extremely long delay that occurs in Windows 8.1 after a reboot when you try to login to windows?

Anon: Thanks for pointing that out, will give it a try! Just FYI, this may be a different issue. Hope the fix works. The thread you referenced was for the updates that were failing silently. My updates mostly work, but when they fail, they do so with an application popup, to let you know. The issue now is why are they occasionally throwing an application error? "referenced memory at 0x00000000" (Dereferencing null pointers). This is a typical programming bug (e.g. use after free, null pointer dereference, out of bounds array access) Basically the error is saying "the software has tried to access memory that doesn't exist or it is not authorized to use".
Finally Avira corrects the mistake. No more blind downloads, the installer version is shown in download page.......
@anon i had the same issue as Tinstaafl, i would like to know is there any solution could fix the issue now? i havent receive the issue for 4 days, and i just received one tonight..all of my updates showed successful.

Thanks, Anon, Avira is the antivirus I have most trust in when it comes to security and protection, however, I can't use it because of the fact I'm still using XP and I have only 895mb of ram memory-this will all change in October when I buy new fresh computer with Windows 10 on it-I need to ask you some more info: For example how much ram memory I have to buy to run Avira antivirus flwalessly, since Avira is using 1024MB of ram memory, do I need to buy 8GB of ram, or 16 gb of ram, or even 32GB of ram, or maybe even 64GB of ram? I just don't want to be in situation where for example I buy 8gb of ram, and just after 5 years for example Avira's usage of ram memory exceeds 8gb of ram and than I have to buy more ram memory-again! So how much ram memory I should buy? Also, I saw that Avira is also fully compatible with Windows 10, both 32-bit and 64-bit-true or false? You can. If you have Windows XP SP3, you need only 512 MB of RAM. There would be hard to decide, Avira is by faar the most trusted antivirus I have ever used, but I don't know, I heard that Windows Defender (unlike in all other previous versions) in Windows 10 is quite effective, it would be very hard decision from my side. Anon, can you somehow help me to ease my decision on this question? I just hope if I decide to install my loved Avira there would not be any slowdowns on Windows 10 loading, and writing stuff in Microsoft Word and using other functions in Windows 10 computer. One more question: is it possible to have avira and MBAM free and Hitman Pro scanners on the computer at the same time without killing each other (I already use both MBAM and HitmanPro on my computer, so the only problem could come from Avira)?
