is it worth buying the pro version? cause i had been using the free portable Revo and it seems to do a good yob.
IMO, yes it is but hang tight because they will sometime run a special price at certain times of the year. Been using it for many years. Regards
Personally I think IObit Uninstaller (particuarly the beta version of v4) is a better option as it is free. It often does not do quite a good a job of finding leftovers (but I have not compared the new beta version with Revo just yet), but it has two excellent features not found in Revo or other similar uninstallers. It has a batch uninstall feature that lets you uninstall multiple programs in one session, and it can scan for leftovers after a reboot. For example, if you uninstall antivirus software and it requires a reboot to finish uninstalling it, you can reboot, and when you restart IObit Uninstaller will scan for leftovers. With Revo and other uninstallers, you can't do this.
@roger_m , But if you uninstall a program that requires a restart, I just delay the restart until after REVO Pro has done it's magic. That isn't a problem for me. How often really, do you need to do a bulk uninstall by the way?
@Krusty13 Some uninstallers do a reboot without asking first. I do batch uninstalls quite often. I often uninstall 10 or 20 programs at once.
I can't remember a program restarting my machines without asking first, but OK. 10 to 20 programs at once?! I wouldn't consider that the norm though, would you? Yeah, after restoring a system to factory condition to get rid of bloat-ware, but regularly?
@Krusty13 It is very rare, but some drivers for video software I removed a few months back made my system reboot automaitcally with no prompting. I do by best to never restore my system, but I reguarly try out software. So uninstalling many programs is the norm for me. Sure, they are extreme examples, but I think IObit Uninstaller works well enough to justify using it instead of paying for Revo.
Fair enough. I guess that's why we have so many choices of software - horses for courses and all that.
@Krusty13 Yes, exactly. In my opinion Revo is excellent (despite not using it anymore), and I used it a lot when it was first released (and only the free 32 bit version was available), and I was still (like most people back then) using a 32 bit version of Windows.
Revo Uninstaller Pro - 25% off. Avanquest have a limited offer when you can buy the full version of Revo for $29.
Comodo Programs Manager is free and looks like it monitors every change when a program is installed so its possible to do complete uninstall.
it is long time outdated and does not get any updates. i would not use it and i am sure it is not compatible with win8 and above.
sometimes delaying reboot will not remove some traces, since they are running or active. So after reboot you still find those traces. Now iobit will scan after a reboot and thats a bonus as those unstoppable traces would not be running after reboot and they can be removed. Only if iobit uninstaller would have 64bit native capability like revo pro. Thats the downside. Any 64bit program will not have traced removed. Also it seems all uninstaller do not search all part of the windows for traces and only certain locations. I often seem remnant and traces left over in places like appdata roaming folder, etc.. I have yet to see an uninstaller that does a full 100% removal of everything from all parts of windows without living any traces.
@taleblou IObit does have native 64 bit compatibility. That's why I use it. It does not trace program installs, it only scans for leftovers.
If you took the time to read revo pro guide then you will have found out that it has a batch uninstaller. This is part of there pdf uninstall guide take a look. 3.1.2. Quick Uninstall Another way to uninstall a program, or a few programs at once, is to use the Quick Uninstall command. To use it you have to select one or more programs from the list of installed programs and press the Quick Uninstall button from the Commands toolbar. That command will open a window and start the uninstallation of the program(s). The sequence of actions is similar to the regular Uninstall command of Revo Uninstaller Pro, but when it comes to the step where you have to review and delete the leftovers, the Quick Uninstall operation automatically deletes the leftovers, reporting to you the number of deleted leftovers; in case you have selected more than one program for uninstall, the uninstallation of the next selected program is automatically started. However, the system restore point and the Registry backup are not done again, as it is not necessary, because they were done at the beginning. Again, by default, all deleted Registry entries are backed up and any found leftover files and folders are deleted to the Recycle Bin.
@Nutty Kutchie I did not know about the batch uninstall in Revo. However, the batch uninstall is IOit is better becuase it does not delete anything without you reviewing it first. You can even reboot part way though the batch uninstall and when you restart IObit will continue to uninstall the remaining programs.
$69.00 is for the portable version; Unlimited computers like a 'technician's' edition. Personal license is $39.00; this 50% code, previously posted in "Uninstallers" topic, still works: REVO-50
But no uninstaller I found has cleaned all leftovers. I know this because I manually search for them in windows and registry and always some left overs are left.
