    Hello against:

Please provide additional confirmation and clarity.

The Windows 8.1 system in question would also receive the identical c00001a5 Exception Code APPCRASH while running the previous version SpywareBlaster 5.0 ?

    Thank you.

    Hi 1PW,

The installation fails at the same point under 5.0 with:

    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

    Application Version: 5.0.0.0
    Application Timestamp: 5130fd0e
    Fault Module Name: StackHash_a556
    Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
    Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000
    Exception Code: c00001a5
    Exception Offset: PCH_DD_FROM_spywareblaster+0x0029B9B3
    OS Version: 6.3.9600.2.0.0.256.48

    Thanks

    Hello against:

Thank you for the detailed clarification.

Since SpywareBlaster 5.0 was released over two years ago, and that exact APPCRASH has not presented in a moderately thorough Internet search, it might be prudent to pursue other avenues of investigation. You may wish to start a topic with http://www.sysnative.com/forums/forum.php or @javacool may be able to offer some valuable insight.

If the APPCRASH generated any dump files, they would be a big help. The added benefit of this pathway is the possible removal/correction of malware, faulty drivers, out-of-date applications or file corruption resolutions, etc.

    Cheers.

    Hello BFarmer1980:

Would you like to disable the system's antivirus and antimalware applications and attempt to install SpywareBlaster 5.0 or 5.2? If an APPCRASH occurs, please Copy and Paste all the failure's event log details into a reply in a similar manner as @against did above.

    Thank you.

    Hi, thanks for the Update.

    Question:
I know this has been discussed in the past but some specifics would be appreciated.
(No offense but not links to six year old + threads)

I run regular Firefox and Firefox Portable Beta ( In the Win 7 Downloads folder)
How does one get SpywareBlaster to recognize the Portable ?

    Any tips appreciated.. Bud.

It was DEP causing the crash. Added an exception and resolved.

That's great your issue is resolved. :)

What exception was it, and what did you add the exception to? Your resolution details may be helpful to others.

    Thank you.

I set "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:"

Then added the installer and the executable to the exception list.

Installed the program with antivirus, etc., disabled. No app crash. Chrome still shows 239 items unprotected.

    Hello BFarmer1980:

    What is observed if:
    1. Open the SpywareBlaster 5.2 Graphical User Interface (GUI).
    2. Make sure the default Protection Status window is selected.
    3. Single left-click Enable All Protection.
    4. All the entries in the database should process and when done, please report if all displayed browsers have "0 items have protection disabled..." now.
    5. Close the GUI.
    Thank you.

I'm afraid SpywareBlaster 5.2 continues to not handle Cyberfox, when it handles another Firefox fork called Pale Moon (far lesser a fork than Cyberfox by the way).
Really a pity when we all know that Cyberfox uses the same permissions scheme as Firefox. It would be a line of code feasible.

Why does SpywareBlaster require direct disk access?

    Hello @BFarmer1980:

If your computer has Microsoft's Windows XP Home x86 SP3 and SpywareBlaster 5.2 installed, your answer regarding Google's Chrome is likely best answered in @javacool's #23 post above.

You may need to send them an email to: bugreports AT brightfort DOT com also.

I apologize for missing that. :( If a clean re-install of SpywareBlaster 5.2 does not correct the issue, then contacting brightfort.com is likely the next best step.

Assuming you're a Spywareblaster 'rep', guess you missed my post... and PallMalls too?
Simple request, the reason I ask is that Firefox has changed considerably over the years and those older posts to get it working with Portable are likely out of date.

    Hi,

This functionality is a good idea for a feature-add, and I've added it to our feature request list.

There is a manual workaround involving editing the Mozilla Firefox profiles.ini file to also include a pointer to your Portable Firefox profile folder. (SpywareBlaster follows the information in the profiles.ini file, so it'll then be able to see the portable profile.) I believe an older thread contains the instructions, but I'm having trouble finding it at the moment.

Thanks for the reply jc, if I understand the old links I found correctly, editing the 'full install' Firefox profile.ini file is a work around.
However...Surely connecting Firefox profiles in any way is a recipe for disaster (nothing concerning Portable should ever be connected to the Moz APPDATA files) and completely defeats the reason for having Portable installed, a 'direct' pointer to the Portable (if possible) is preferable.

This is no biggie, don't loose sleep over it, I'm a longtime appreciator of SWB, thanks for your hard work, and can simply occasionally swap out 'permissions.sqlite' from my main Fx install profile.
    :)
