For a up-to-date avast, you said right.
This test reflects longevity of the detection quality

Interesting, is this new? Previously, these used to be on-demand scans only, have they not?

its not new, its like that since some years already. You should read the PDFs more carefully ;) (or at least the title... "behavioral" :D).

The methodology was changed 3 years ago. All retrospective tests since 2012 included running all samples that were missed by the on-demand scan.

This doesn't exactly bode well for avast, both as a company and as a product.

that sounds like most of the test is mainly on demánd, and just remaining samples are executed in a dynamic way

usually on-demand settings are different to realtime scanner settings

    Heuristic / Behaviour Tests
The retrospective tests evaluate the products against new and unknown malware to measure the proactive protection capabilities (e.g. through heuristics, generic signatures, etc.). This test also takes into consideration the false positive rate. Starting from 2012, the remaining malicious files are also being executed, so that the proactive protection provided by e.g. behaviour blockers is evaluated.

    In my opinion,
this test by AV-comparatives is not worth a penny,
because vendors where asked to opt-in.

A independent test institute should not ask for permission, which product to test and which category to review, or not.

    Just my 2 cents
