problem still with newegg is many of the items are not for sale out of the usa, and many times the cart does not tell you until during checkout.i know others who have had this issue. as for the newsletter as said you can easily unsubscribe and they will only send that they do not spam any of my mailboxes. they ticked me off also not to long ago over a similar issue.

Thanks for the heads up. I've used this 'company' before and had no problems. Same this time. No problems. I know very often when things seem to be too good to be true, they are, but every now and again I take a flyer on something.

I assume it is all legal and above board and there is no harm or foul. In the mean time I promote WSA at various audio forums (that keep going on about how great MSE is), and even at tech sites like the Register where I have actually been accused of being a paid shill for them! I also buy and pay for various other av/am softwares, trying them out for family/friends. I'm not a big player, in fact it's quite small the dent I make. I did a big promo (unsolicited) for emsisoft and had over a thousand hits to the thread. I answered over 20 questions. I could tell that out of all that, only one person took me up on the affiliate scheme. Maybe a few went and just bought it elsewhere, I don't know.

Still, the good will and promotion that comes from happy users is worth its weight in Gold. Maybe more as a fallback than an actual leader of sales. But I don't get paid, I get the very odd piece of free software or the odd update here and there, but that's it.

I'm happy to be burned or ripped off by the odd unscrupulous ebay seller. But what I'm not happy about, is one of the biggest companies in the world, of its kind, wasting my time and harvesting my information. I know they have better resources than that. And I know I just got ripped off - not for money, but for info. I will make a point of never using them again, and also recommending that no one else ever uses them again, due to their sharp practice.

An ebay scammer I can live with. This professional outfit, not so much. Btw, I've never been burned on ebay yet - everyone has been more than what they have advertised. Unlike Newegg.

It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I'm more annoyed by the hour or so out of my life than I am about my information being harvested.

Could I just make a simple suggestion:
Could Newegg, at least tell people that the product is not available in their country. IP info is accurate down to a few miles, most definitely within a country/continent. There is no excuse with this.

Would it be too much to ask the good people of Wilderssecurity to at least clarify this, so others do not waste their time and have their info harvested?

I know I over react sometimes, but after a little while everything comes back into perspective. I'm not angry any more, but I don't see any mechanisms in place for this not to happen to someone else a few pages/posts/days down the road.

I'm not the sort of person who complains or who 'takes things further'. I'm sure the mods here have better things to deal with. But there is the distinction of being ripped off for money. Then there is the distinction of being ripped off for time. And there is the distinction of being ripped off for marketing information. They will have a field day with me, resourcing and researching components for computer builds. That all goes back. I know for a fact it does. If not with them, then with other companies. How do you think marketing works? How do you think google dominate so much in the market?

People on this forum talk about 'lusers' and naive idiots only being to blame themselves for not taking the requisite precautions. Social engineering and what have you. The weakest link in the chain. You know what I mean. Let's not pretend that this is any less nefarious in its making, and those that feed it, any less naive or dumb, and all for the sake of a couple of dollars off, appealing to greed. I know all about greed. I know how greedy most people are. That is another story, that I can back up with facts and figures. I'm not cheap. I'm happy to pay for any good software I have and to keep the developers ticking over.

At the end of the day, Newegg used Webroot to garner marketing information that I would wager has not been deleted from their database. And that I would wager further, will be used internally, or sold externally for hard cash. If anyone can prove otherwise, then sue me.

Yes, I've spent two hours of my life blahing on about this, when I was only ripped off for an hour in the first place. But be careful in this life who you rip off. I'd happily spend another 20 hours ripping these people apart on various forums all over the net. Audio forums. Overclocking and computer building forums (where they have a pretty lousy reputation to start with).

I'm really glad some of you got some cheap licenses. You will also have paid in time and information. But please, don't have a go at me just because I resent being led down the garden path. The whole experience was a joke. As someone who build websites, I know when I've been taken for a mug. But I've got my nice cheap WSA licenses, thanks a lot. They work! The thing is, I would have bought a whole lot more for a little promotion I'm doing at the moment, pertaining to something else. That won't happen now. No worries. No one would have made much money at those prices anyway, but maybe, the word would have spread and a customer that gets a free, well working product now, would pay for it in 12 months time when it runs out and they have come to rely on it.

Just some thoughts. I'm a nothing and a nobody. There's no reason for anyone to take anything I say ever semi seriously. I'm just another dumb user that likes to pay for good software, and promotes it here and there to the few others he knows that like to do the same.

Well, I guess they don't ship to the UK, otherwise you would have said. Your silence is deafening. But I think we all get the picture now.

Just to be clear and to make sure everyone knows, newegg will harvest your information for marketing purposes, but won't sell you a license if you live in the UK. Just fyi, just in case you don't have a spare hour or two to waste.

It really is very dubious behaviour to keep effectively spamming this forum, but still not yet have the decency to respond to a civil request, that you point out that these deals are not available in the UK, and that people who follow through on this trying to buy them will be led down the garden path, only to be told at the end 'Sorry, Sucker, got all your infos, init, bye'.

But do carry on, old chap, as we say here in the United Kingdom.

It is not my responsibility to do ANYTHING for you. I post the deals available on Newegg to give people a break on the price of software.
It takes a bit of time on my part and I am not compensated for it. I am appreciative when people acknowledge the help I provide. You posted your dissatisfaction with Newegg's policies here for all to see. You had your say. I have no control over their policies. It is time to move on.

Quite right! I have been allowed to voice my dissatisfaction for all to see. I can't ask for more than that. I will now move on.

Thank you and good day Gentlemen.
