Please ask yourselves if you folks are completely and entirely aware of the recent logistic/financial minutia that kept this site afloat till now.

You know, I, and others, have the greatest respect for Peter and the work he has put in at COU, and nobody disputes his corner-stone actions, and upkeep of the site.
Don't view it as such a negative thread. It isn't anti-Iceman in any way.
There is one thing though. The total lack of contact, or any kind of explanation. Let's be honest, Peter is the man at the top. He is answerable to the users, registered or not.
No explanations last time, and now back at the same place, with similar circumstances.

Apart from donations, I guess I'm aware of what's passed, and the past hasn't been forgotten. How can it? Things change. People's lives and circumstances change, and if the site's actual upkeep is as big a problem as it appears, as has been the case for some time, then arrangements need to be made for the continuity of it.

This downtime is damaging in the extreme, and I am correct in what I say. It will be viewed negatively. Eventually, recovery will not be an option.

    Just being realistic.

If we are to assume this is the pivotal point of failure, could we propose immediate, then on-going, constructive solutions?

We have no idea. That's the problem. Things were supposed to be rosy for another year, so it seems the problem may lie elsewhere.

The only viable suggestion based on the current problems is that the site administration is shared with at least one other person. That person needs access to backups, and the option of moving the domain name to another IP.

Or starting anew. Peter is the only one who can answer the questions.

Money is not the issue! It's just if Peter cares to look after COU anymore he is never around so Tim and I are trying since the last time will no contact from Peter, I just hope he does and we can carry on the Legacy of Donna and actually work on the site to fix it up and keep going.

    Thanks,

    Daniel

    I didn't think It was.

We know that, but what if he says nothing. How long are people proposing to wait? What if it's 'sorted', and in six months time this thread is resurrected? This is an important point, and the sitting around, hoping for the best, is just infuriating.

There's nothing else to do after all....

I know money is not the trouble or was told that last time. It's just your rights to do anything are not there and need to be. We had the same thing go years ago but was able to pay because some rights was even one member. Later we got control.

I hope the same can be done because it just happen again after only two months.

The partner site, Dozleng.com is also offline. Last time, it wasn't.

The database is corrupted. This is why dozleng is down too. All that needs to be done is fix the issue with the database and reboot the server and all will be ok but we cannot reach Peter.
There is no money issues this time.
Hopefully Peter will listen to his voice mail that was sent to him.
If not there is nothing I can do.

Dozleng is a separate entity afaik. A different site. It's usually there when COU isn't.

The server is unreachable for me. I expect an error stating the database is unavailable, as usual. No response from either.

1pw's findings suggest there might be a billing problem after all.
    anyway,
So the outcome is, if peter doesn't respond, 'we' just give up, and nothing will happen to maintain some sort of presence?

Why don't we give it some time, then just reboot with another site? I've already asked how long the waiting is going to last, and at this point the answers are just as scarce as Peter's.

Somebody make some sort of decision for pete's sake! (no pun intended)

We have no choice but to sit with our thumbs up our ~ Snipped as per TOS ~ because Peter has control!
The only logical choice is to be very tolerant for this long mis guided delay like last time
but and I pretty sure, that Timothy and Danny Boy will get some definite holdings for the future ;)

Course there's a choice. Call it a contingency plan.

Things appear more serious this time, and it's twice in a row within a short time span. Patience is short.

Definite holdings for the future, but when is that? How long is too late?

I know what's going through people's minds regarding the original board intact, and that would be the best option, but the time may come when it's no longer a valid option. There are several issues besides the obvious one.

It's not that we haven't made decisions because Triple Helix and I did that back in late Feb. but we never got a response from Peter so we don't have access to pay the bills nor do we have access to features in the Admin Control panel at the site. We cannot do backups or any major changes to the site. Our admin features are limited to the ACP.
I hope that answers your question anon.;)

Hello members of this forum and Calendar of Updates forum.
I'm sorry to bring the bad news but as of now Calendar of Updates and Dozleng.com no longer exist. I just got off the phone with Peter and he informed me what had taken place. This is what I was told by Peter.
    "Quote"

There was a problem with paying the bill. Peter's laptop and desktop had broken down and he wasn't able to work out any deals with the server company so we were able to stay online. Also I want everyone to know that Peter had been working long hours and changed jobs. Daniel and I did everything we knew to do but without any information on how to pay the bill or get any backups were impossible because of the TOS site rules with the server company. Peter told me that everything was his fault and that he took full responsibility as to what has happened. Also all the backups were on his laptop which died.

So I'm formally announcing that Calendar of Updates is no longer online and will not be back online. :-(
I want to thank all our loyal members for all there help at Calendar of Updates.

I wish everyone all the best and I'm signing off.
Thanks to all once again for there hard work to all our members that made Calendar of Updates what it had became.

    Regards,
    Tim Cormany

Thank you, Tim. This is indeed very sad news. For many reasons. On many levels.

Thanks to all who have contributed to the site. It has served me well. And will be missed.

    Carol
