well the "ridiculous" was How Qihoo play the tricks and means to third party test lab
Remember not only AV-C blam you "play" the rules,AV-T,VB100 also did the same statement
why only blam AV-C and quite it only when three labs also find you are treat the test?
More ridiculous was you adverts saying QVM was the most top engine in all test while you didn't turn it on in all three test?
are you thinking all the users was stupid?

Also why crack should not be alarm?
i also believe chinese users used a lot of cracked and patched softwares.
So you mean other users in the world was not using patched or cracked softwareo_O?

4: Testing procedures which do not follow the antivirus technology [cloud, containerisation/sandboxing, hips/bb] but rely on signatures only are outdated and cannot represent product effectiveness.
Wait a second, this only happen on Proactive test, how about real world test and other test which allow cloud to join it!
AV-C has said that you can use cloud in some test already.
Not just Qihoo you are using Cloud and Sandbox technology, you are not the creator.don't think you are the domination for the whole antivirus industries.Other use cloud/sandbox too,why they didn't

bothered on testing?Just you have problem Qihoo?

Remember you are not the first time to join those test,
if the test method is not suitable for you,you can leave the test,no one can bother you anyway
You almost attended for three years!
    not first time!

Don't play the words, face the turth
you just lie to users and now you are showing how mean and ridiculous you was

You're joking, right? Honestly, I'm shocked that people are still using them after years of shady business practices. With so many good solutions out there, there's more than enough reason to just not bother with a suspicious product.

Nice to see there are still some sane, rational people here that have a grasp on reality and understand what happened.

I uninstalled Security Essentials. My day the other day. I scanned with Security Essentials and it detected some stuff. I then rescanned and it detected something else. I hate programs that have to go through your hard drive several times. I changed to Avira Free.

Probably wouldn't matter, this would be seen as business as usual.

One interesting thing is, Qihoo has actually two statements regarding the reports. One is on their global website, the other is on their official Sina Weibo and chinese website.
The chinese version of the statements strongly accused AV-C's test methods as out-dated for cloud age, and announced that they would quit the test.

The funny part is, when Qihoo got A+ in any of AV-C tests in the past, they couldn't wait to show off on their website or with their official news on the media.
Now AV-C and other labs point out the fraud, and suddenly the tests, which Qihoo used to prove the tech advantage of their product, become "out-dated, useless" ones.

Tencent's response in chinese websites was similar, insisting that their product in test had no diff with their product in public.

On forums, someone told a different story -- Qihoo's high level manager showed their target in global market, 100M PCs, in a in-door meeting held by one of the labs, which made vendors in western countries so anxious that the vendor planned the attack on Qihoo. However, most people on that forum didn't believe the storyteller; instead, many people believed that the story was made by Qihoo.

All the statements by the labs are reported by media, or re-posted by users in China.

it wasn't so much altered to get better detection, but rather turning off an engine which gave a higher false positive read. Test scores are detection vs FPs - so if the FP rate is lowered, the relative score goes up - or that's how I understand it.

As was alluded to earlier on this page - what is needed is an oversight organisation to oversee the testing done by these testing groups.

There are similar ideas and strategies for several other non-computer related groups. For example, how do you know if that produce item at the market actually meets the "Organic" certification by the third party whose seal appears on the package? There is an oversight group which is optional to join and they oversee Organic certifiers to keep them honest to some degree by internationally agreed-upon standards. Something just like this is needful for anti-malware testing organisations as well. The oversight group would operate in such a way so as not to be affected by money.

There is an organisation called IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) who holds Organic certifiers accountable by being critically observant of testing and procedures used.

If an Organic certifier was found to be certifying items that did not meet the Organic standards as set forth by the law or international convention then that certifying organisation would be fully discredited and that would mean the end of their business. The same thing could happen in the computer security business.

Just a thought but when all is said and done just remember this: Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Guys, I haven't read the thread, so excuse me if I echo someone's thoughts. This buzz is all about what we know for years - when you download Qihu, other av engines apart their own are not enabled and that's big news ? This doesn't change protection level, they can show 2 ratings: with QVM only and with all engines. And why all testing labs doesn't download av's for testing from public sites o_O?

@Malware fighter The issue is that Qihoo enabled Bitdefender and disabled their own QWM engine, in order to get better detection rates and less false positives. It was downloaded from the Qihoo website. I believe, for a brief period of time, Qihoo published a different installer to the usual one, so that it would be download and used for testing.

I don't think this was really a big deal, I mean the testers are not idiots I assume? Why are they acting like they feel cheated? And my comment was more of a general one. A topic of 8 pages for this non-event? But to clarify, it's a non event to me because I'm not into AV's at all, most of them are bloated and bad for privacy. And I wouldn't touch Baidu and Qihoo 360 with a ten foot pole.

Okay Roger that finally makes sense.I was wondering why they would want to be tested using less sigs and down-tweeking themselves.

    Regards Eck:)
