'Important note: KB 2990214 contains a new version of the Windows Update engine.

Buried in the KB article, you can see that the update applies not only to Windows 7 SP1, but also to Windows Server 2008 R2. But the KB article confusingly admonishes: "This update for Windows Server 2008 R2 does not support you to upgrade to a later version of Windows.", that doesn't do what the KB article says it's going to do.'

It's been quite a month for botched patches. I'm seeing more and more reports of problems with two new patches: KB 2965295, the "April 14, 2015 update for Outlook 2010" and KB 2965270, descriptively entitled "April 14, 2015 update for Outlook 2013." I'm also hearing new rumblings about our old friends KB 2956128 -- the February Outlook 2010 update rollup (with problems that Microsoft promised to fix "by the 3rd week of April") -- and its successor of sorts, KB 2956203, the "March 10, 2015 update for Outlook 2010."..........http://www.infoworld.com/article/29...eeze-calendar-and-syncing-cause-lockouts.html

    Hi quietman
Both KB3021952 and KB3038314 are for Internet Explorer :thumb:, not anything to do with GWX .

    Take Care

I check threads like this quite often. I'm happy w win 7 still but I can't say I won't move on to win 10 till it is actually released. (If I do it'll be a clean install) Nice to see the information on some of the more recent 'updates' available here. I always check the MS info pages before I add it to my sysprep image but having prior knowledge helps especially when the KB pages can't 'be found' early on. So THANK YOU for the info even if I normally don't normally talk here much.

That infoworld page reflected my thoughts quite well Dragon so thumbs up to you for sharing it here! The ending in particular, "Will Microsoft never learn that it's best to be straight with its customers up front? This is the kind of crap I would've expected under the previous regime. It's a disservice to those who are working hard to open up the Windows development process.
Transparency is good on the desktop and in the KB."

I've never understood why they require you to click a link to get to the actual information. More often than not the page it opens explains it better in one sentence than the 'default' placeholder texts resulting in a much longer string of ****. That sentence or two should be visible in place of those default strings so people know what they installing. I'll always be wary of any organization that goes 'out of their way' to make it harder for people to know what they are installing.

What's next, ELUA's that require you to blindly agree or visit a specific (url) site (and opens up a plethora of attack vectors) before you can install a new piece of software? It's essentially the same thing in my book.

Note If you are running Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2, you must have update 2919355 installed before you install this update.
    ---
    Method 2: Microsoft Download Center

You can obtain the stand-alone update package through the Microsoft Download Center. Follow the installation instructions on the download page to install the update.

I installed all the updates. I figured what the heck. If I get nagged by MS for Win 10, I need a good reformat anyway and just won't install the KB's associated with Win 10. With all this confusion with WU I'm starting to look at Mac's. :argh:

I installed all updates and didn't have any problems so far. If I will get any problems with them in the future I will just uninstall/disable/block them.

Microsoft also patched Internet Explorer. The latest cumulative update for the browser includes a number of fixes for vulnerabilities that were privately disclosed during the Pwn2Own contest last month. MS15-032 patches 10 vulnerabilities in IE, including nine different memory corruption issues, and an ASLR bypass, none of which are being publicly exploited. The vulnerabilities range from security feature bypass, to elevation of privilege, to information disclosure, to remote code execution.....
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (3038314)
    Published: April 14, 2015

    Version: 1.0
    Executive Summary

This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. The most severe of the vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted webpage using Internet Explorer. An attacker who successfully exploited these vulnerabilities could gain the same user rights as the current user. Customers whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than those who operate with administrative user rights.

This security update is rated Critical for Internet Explorer 6 (IE 6), Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7), Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8, Internet Explorer 9 (IE 9), Internet Explorer 10 (IE 10), and Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) on affected Windows clients, and Moderate for Internet Explorer 6 (IE 6), Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7), Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8 , Internet Explorer 9 (IE 9), Internet Explorer 10 (IE 10), and Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) on affected Windows servers. For more information, see theAffected Software section.

The security update addresses the vulnerabilities by modifying the way that Internet Explorer handles objects in memory and by helping to ensure that affected versions of Internet Explorer properly implement the ASLR security feature.
