Thanks. Updated NOD32 yesterday, "over the top". I still would wish the possibility characters to be displayed larger when a person wishes so. Call it "scalable GUI" or whatever name is appropriate. It is so hard to read them for me. I am still confused about the number-version policy about SysInspector as discussed in https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/eset-sysinspector-1-2-049.374399/
After using this version on a clean install (when it comes to installing an AV, I always ensure it is a clean install from a previous Windows image I took before installing any AV previously), running a full scan........I can confirm after 48 hours that this is much lighter....... launching Adobe CS 6 apps, installing apps, all feel snappier as if there was no AV!! Great job ESET! Right on track with being light and efficient as in the old days!
what you say seems logical, but I went to the eset download site and there "warnings" about UNINSTALL and as noted above... so uninstalled .304, rebooted, and installed .312. I had to re-input my license info, and my nod32 settings were gone and I had to redo, but no big deal, .312 seems great, light, & fast. I need to spend some more time reading manual and checking the forum(s) for tweaks. I assume settings can be exported and imported, etc.
if marco reads this maybe he can answer what does removing the lightweight filter do? will ess no longer scan http traffic? or will the firewall basically not work? im being curious what the result would be by removing the filter for now. thanks.
Hi zfactor, with lightweight filter network filtering (firewall) will not work. However, protocol filtering should so with the filter disabled you will basically have ESS with EAV functionality plus antispam and Anti-Theft. Our engineers plan to investigate the issue deeper before v9 becomes available.
thank you for the answer. i have a few clients with this issue and i told them there might be a temp fix but being they paid for and are running ess i did not want to tell them i would have to "downgrade" them to eav (as most people would see it) for the same price they paid for ess. i will see if they want to do this for now.
just a suggestion, if you contact support via email and tell them you want to downgrade ESS to EAV license, they will actually give you more time validity on the license since EAV is cheaper.
i understand that but regular people who buy something expecting to get what they paid for and who are not technical and do not care nor want to understand why may feel as that is a downgrade to drop to a lesser product.
I just installed Smart Security 8 yesterday. I am also running Emsisoft Anti-malware real-time version. I also did not exclude SS 8 drivers initially from EAM. EAM's behavior blocker is very sensitive to hidden files/downloads and the like. Not at peep from EAM about this driver or any of the other Eset drivers.
Good Evening! Itman! I contacted Erikloman at Hitman...and ran a subsequent scan and all was rectified. The newest version of Eset is running light and nimble...what we've all come to expect from Eset. Sincerely...Securon
I still installed over the top of the old version with no problems PLUS I did not uninstall my anti malware programs. I have 4 computers and no way was I going to spend the time doing all that since previous experience shows it was not necessary.
I got a notification from ESET NOD32 this morning that an upgrade was available. I upgraded and have not found any issues.
Same here, but I didn't have time to upgrade the 2nd machine and the notification went away, and now I can't get it via the internal updater, even with "regularly check for latest product version" option checked. I imagine it will come back and offer itself to me again when its ready, and judging by the changelog, I don't think I'm missing anything critical by waiting patiently.
Hello, I was in a similar situation so I had to click "don't remind me again" on the notification about the PCU update. But when I checked manually 2 days later with the built-in updater it found the new version fine. Does it say that you are using the latest version when you click "check for updates" under the Update tab in the GUI ? http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2476 If it does say you're using the latest version then keep clicking on that button during the coming days and I'm sure it will find it eventually. And you are correct that there is no harm in staying with the version you got for a while longer if you haven't experience any of the fixed problems seen in the changelog. I actually stayed a couple of months with a version even if a new build was available because I was not affected by any of the fixed issues and the build I had worked wonderful.
Hi SweX... Yes it says I am using the latest version, which it identifies as 8.0.304.0. It would be more accurate and even a little bit helpful if it was someway possible for the internal updater to determine that a user's current version was not the most current, and then inform the user that the newer version would be available soon. As it stands now, the information given is inaccurate, albeit understandable (this throttling business). I don't have the program set to automatically download and install new program components, so that probably has a lot to do with the problem. I can always get the newest version if I wanted, rather than wait for the internal updater, right?
I never thought about this before but I also think it would be reasonable if ESET alerted users to a new version upgrade in the same way that it can be set to alert users about available Windows updates. I suppose they may be hesitant to add that capability due to the possibility of server overloading. Page42, you should post that in the ESS or Antivirus enhancement threads over at the ESET forum site.
@ Page42, Marcos said that PCU updates via the internal updater had been stopped but that they will resume soon. So I assume that could be the reason why the updater doesn't pick up the new build when you check manually by clicking the button. Yes, users can always get the latest version from the website, installs over-the-top are supported. I even did that myself this time (I usually do clean installs) and it worked great, very smooth. @ hamlet, Yes users can set the product to regularly check for the latest version under "update -> advanced update setup" in the setup-tree. Same place where we find the PCU update settings.
Installs over the top very cleanly, and I can conform that it feels even lighter than the previous version
All this morning, I have been trying to access the Eset forums web site. I keep getting SSL/TLS error disconnects from IE. My Win 7 event log is full of Schannel error 40 events from this web site. No problem with any other HTTPS web site. Maybe Eset doesn't like their own SSL certificate since I have SSL protocol scanning set to on?
Hello itman, I am having the exact same issue as you. I, however see this issue on two sites, the ESET forums as you mentioned and also the Malwarebytes forums. I have not been able to find any solution so far...
Hi Kent and itman, Same here (Win7 64-bit, IE-11 , Dutch ) (on both sites as Kent mentioned). Screenshot (in Dutch):
Bet it is related to this: http://www.basics.net/2015/01/05/windows-schannel-error-40-and-internet-explorer/ and both eset and malwarebytes forums are located on the same servers? Hope someone can inform them of the issue. Appears the server has their cyphers out of order.
