man wish they would have done something with the "lightweight" filter. still have an issue on so many systems with that thing.
After so many months eagerly awaiting an update to NOD32, I was hoping for some big changes and buggies nut am disappointed to see such a change log with barely a few cosmetically changes, seems they were very hard working on fixing some GUI changes totally ignoring the performance aspects of the product when they have acknowledged the Web filter needs patching but no mention of that.
Download servers have been updated. An uninstall of previous version is recommended before installing new version.
They might release new version of web filter module after they release new version. Sometimes they update specific modules without explicitly mentioning it in changelog.
Very few bug fixes. I'm not sure what to think about that. I'm not sure if that's because there has not been many bugs reported, or maybe their putting all their time into version 9 already. I have an open ticket right now. They informed me I have to call them after sending them 2 email. Their first email said I have to verify that I have a valid license. I had already sent them my license info, but I sent it to them again. Their second email said that I need to call them. I kept getting the dreaded Eset unable to communicate with the kernel error. NOD 32 kept crashing over, and over again. It happened 3 times in 1 week. It has not happened anymore after rolling my machine back a third time, and removing all traces of NOD 32. I reinstalled Eset Smart Security instead since Online Armor was discontinued. That's what my license is for anyways. I'm going to call them today to see why I needed to call them. I sent them SysInspector logs so its just a bug report now since i'm no longer having trouble... knock on wood.
Not true, Eset does upgrades (performance/stability/detection) every month, it simple doesnt need major releases because of its modular architeture. Look at your Nod32 modules in "About" session, you will see what I am talking about. http://kb.eset.com/library/ESET/KB%20Team%20Only/SOLN2256/SOLN2256FIG1-1.png
It is fine, like I said the modules were probably updated that fixed it bUT am disappointed that there is no mention of this I the change log
this update did not change things with the lightweight filter. i have the same issues as previous version. mortal since you are using only the av this issue is not present.
I understand, what a shame despite all your and Mayhana's complaints still no fix. That's why I always prefer AV only vs suitea
I just started using NOD32 (v8.0.304.0) again (I ran eset a long time ago, but drifted away). Running it now with Outpost firewall and they seem to work well together and no slowdowns seen on this XP. I did disable HIPS in NOD32, and running OP's HIPS. Reference Thankful's comment to uninstall before installing new version, if I wait for eset autoupdates, will NOD32 handle update "automatically" or must I get involved and manually uninstall the current version?
Good Morning! Just had Hitman Pro...identify this No...No! ESET Smart Security Publisher . . . . : ESET Description . . . : Epfw NDIS LightWeight Filter Version . . . . . : 8.0.103.0 Copyright . . . . : Copyright (c) ESET, spol. s r.o. 1992-2014. All rights reserved. LanguageID . . . . : 1033 Fuzzy . . . . . . : 42.0 The file is hidden from Windows API. This is typical for malware. The file is completely hidden from view and most antivirus products. It may belong to a rootkit. The file is located in a folder that contains core operating system files from Windows. This is not typical for most programs and is only common to system tools, drivers and hacking utilities. The file is a device driver. Device drivers run as trusted (highly privileged) code . Should I forward this to Eset...or are they Acutely aware of the False Positive! Sincerely...Securon
Hi Zfactor, we are aware of the issue but this one is tricky and it's not clear yet where the problem lies. The lightweight driver is simple and has just one functionality. An in-depth analysis will be needed to confirm or deny that it's caused by the driver itself and not a bug in Windows for instance. It's really strange that it occurs only on a few computers and we haven't received any reports of it from our partners nor from any other users in my country. The new service build 8.0.312 was meant to fix all known issues where the cause was known and it was possible to make a fix. regards, Marcos
If HitmanPro detects the driver then you should post this in the HitmanPro thread to let Erik/Mark know:https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/hitman-pro-support-and-discussion-thread.236732/
If I'm not mistaken, ESET should prompt you to update to the latest build by default. You can then update through the GUI.
Not sure if it's the default but has the option to en/disable -- http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?pag...earch&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1428501392509 As with all large, product updates for companies, ESET throttles the GUI release to avoid server overload.
I agree. I never got new build release through internal updater - even month after new version was released. I usually download whole installer, uninstall old version and reinstal new one.
true and that's no coincidence, happens on all of the PCs I use NOD32 on. I have to manually update all clients and cannot rely on their updater to ensure they are running the latest version.
Good Morning! Erikloman! Thanks for your prompt response. Hitman did it's usual scan after start up this morning and it was Clean! Sincerely...Securon
It's always worked like a charm. New builds are not immediately distributed via the built-in updater but always with a delay. Also minor releases may not be distributed via the updater in case they won't give any benefits to users with an ESET product already installed.
