Recently I had downloaded AVG and used it until I had a chance to purchase and download the one I wanted. Then I went to delete the AVG because I found it a bit controlling, that was not easy to do as AVG did its best to stay. Finally I thought I had it all removed, I used the Advanced Uninstaller Pro and it said that alsso removed all the little tidbits that will remain. Two weeks later I am doing a new backup and I see AVG is being backed up! It was in the Program Files (x86). Now then I tried to delete The AVG that was there, but it told me i needed permission to do that. That is the reason I am here looking for help. I am using Windows 7 Home Pro.
Have you tried running the AVG Remover tool? (Make sure you download the correct 'bitness') http://www.avg.com/gb-en/utilities
+1, you need to reboot into safe mode and run their uninstaller although I cannot guarantee success. If it were my system, I'd format it if it had AVG before hand before installing any other AV but that's just me as I'm a perfectionist
It the AVG Remover tool not works, try the following: 1) ESET AV Remover tool The ESET AV Remover tool will remove almost any antivirus software previously installed on your system. http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN146&ref=wsf --------------------------- 2) AppRemover http://www.appremover.com/ http://www.appremover.com/faq ---------------------------- Antivirus Remover https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/antivirus-remover.352955/
