    Well well well. Hopefully this Avast rebound isn't just temporary.

    In protection section, too many products with scores 5.0~6.0/6.0
    Same story in current test, same story in previous ones.
    Seems quite weird, imo.

    Too many good AV or too easy samples?

    I don't think it is, it didn't just shot off, but it got here gradually. Meaning they've done stuff to actually improve detection and wasn't just a one time lucky thing.

    ESET has a low score on performance test while in my experience it is the fastest of the options tested in AV-Test.

    Does anyone know what kind of methodology AV-Test uses?

    0s for BitDefender also seems fishy. You can only achieve anything like that is if you cache or skip stuff somehow. And some AV's do that over shorter time, some do it more aggressively. Or Comodo with 3s where I know it always grinds my HDD like mad and makes things to move slower than with lets say avast!. And yet it's supposedly 1s faster than avast!. It doesn't make sense, but then again I don't really care about performance test numbers, I trust what I see by myself, because that has always been different than what tests say...

    ESET has been scoring low on AV-TESTs for more than 4 tests consecutively. If you think ESET is light, I suggest you try any other AV and just watch your internet browsing, file copying, overall system snapiness, go up.......then you'd be able to really tell.....was it really light as you thought it was? or maybe you just got used to its heaviness. I have tried every AV out there extensively, and no matter what anyone says, ESET gives me the biggest performance impact of them all.

    Eset has significant improvements in browsing performance in their pre-release updates where there is a new version of the Internet protection module. I tested it myself and it made a big difference for me.

    I really want it to work to be honest. I check on their site for an updated version every day about 3 times but they haven't updated it since like more than 6 months. Every other AV vendor is updating and improving their product while they are just sitting and losing customers every day due to their horrible performance. I have contacted their support on the forums, we did a few things and patches which improved things a bit, but nowhere near where I'd like it to be as light as v6 and before

    Trend and Norton, once again scoring 100%, and almost no system impact.

    These guys are real players now.

    As I stated above, you can try the pre-release update. Enter the setup tree, and under Update, select "pre-release update". Then click on the update button.

    That's possibly only a minority of users having such issue. Everybody makes mistake and no AV is perfect. I personally think that ESET becomes heavier maybe because there are some new detection capabilities or features are added to the modules of its recent version, which might be affecting the users' overall system performance.

    They haven't updated it maybe because they are concerning about quality assurance and hopefully the issues reported by the users can be resolved successfully just by one official update release. They probably also need to get as many user's feedbacks on the pre-release update as they can so I would rather stay with ESET. You also stated that they are losing customers every day, come on, every company gains and loses its customers everyday.

    i take this test with a VERY small grain of salt anymore i just dont agree with many of the results normally. and i also agree way to many scoring so high they must be using some really easy samples.

    Personally I'm not aware of any bugs that would require a rebuild of the whole installer. Since Jan 1 2015, ESET has released about 50 module updates that either addressed certain issues, extended the capabilities of existing modules or brought brand new protection features. ESET uses a modular architecture of their products so unless there's a problem with drivers, kernel or gui, update of the whole program is not needed.
    Some users have reported issues with ESS when disabling ESET Lightweight filter in network adapter setup made a difference. With EAV, these users didn't report any such issues. It seems the issue manifests under very specific circumstances as we were unable to reproduce it and only a few users in forums have reported it.

  18. Thanks for your participation here at Wilders Marcos.

    Note that ESET got the maximum (best) score for usability in the above referenced test -- just in case that was not clear to anyone.

    ... together with 11 more AV-- just in case that was not clear to anyone. :p

    Usability scores:
    6.0= 12 AV
    5.5= 8 AV
    5.0 = 5 AV
    4.0 = 1 AV
    3.5 = 1 AV
    My comment for protection applies for usability too.......

    It's actually shocking that Windows Defender on Win 8 and 8.1 has this bad score in terms of performance. Being incorporated with Windows it should be very light... I can confirm that my Win 8 runs faster with Avira compared to Windows Defender.

    - Avast! #1 in protection? Wow, can't wait to see their AV-C performance. Hopefully this is a trend.

    - Panda Free and Qihoo 360 still doing really well.

    - Tencent did well yet again, despite doing terribly in the past. What changed?

  22. Very true and ..... Yeah, got it.

    But you, like me, should be polite and encouraging to the good and helpful vendor reps who we want to keep coming back. While I have 6 different AVs in my household.... I don't currently use ESET and have no real opinion nor dog in the fight about ESETs current test results.

    But Marcos is a good ESET rep for Wilders.

    And... your information clarifications are beneficial too.

    I have already mentioned that several times, goes in one ear and out the other.

    With that said, the ESET results this time are surprisingly good to come from AV-Test.

    Yes surprisingly eset got 0.5 better score in terms of performance; since they haven't changed the main program version since the last test results, I wonder what influenced this bump on the score , usability wise, IMHO Eset has the best interface and easiest way to white list out of them all and they display system hidden files by default regardless of the OS folder options setting which is a great convenience for me
