Some reviews put it on step above AHN Labs....A few reviews give it the highest score of all....I'd love to support American based tech support..anyone use it?

I have been a long time beta for CounterSpy/Vipre, but I have not followed it lately...I guess they don't care about loyalty from their testers. I am not even [any longer] in their notifications for when there is a new beta for testing.

So, happens when a company changes hand, so many times...a different philosophy/culture pervades.

Good Evening! Like Tarnak...I go back to Counterspy days...and early Vipre days...was also active as a Beta Tester. I also like to Patronize North American Vendors. But as Tarnak alluded too the constant Corporate changes has taken it's toll. I hope they regain their focus...and improve the engine and heuristics...because as of the last two years they've received terrible reviews at both A/V Test...and A/V Comparitives. I'm curious as to what reviews you've sourced that give it best of class. Sincerely...Securon

I was a longtime VIPRE user and tester too. The product fell by the wayside when Sunbelt was acquired by GFI, and I think things seem to have gotten worse since they spun off from GFI into ThreatTrack.

As an aside, if you're looking to support a company w/US-based support, check out Webroot. They're headquartered in Broomfield, CO and AFAIK their support folks are in the US. There's a big thread about their SecureAnywhere product line here: hxxp://wilderssecurity.com/threads/webroot-secureanywhere-discussion-update-thread.364655/

That sums things up pretty good, m0unds. I too was a VIPRE user (is this starting to sound like a meeting where we all stand up in front of the group?), and the only thing I would add to your astute summary is that their forum went to you know where, and their tech support grew increasingly inept. I don't have the inclination nor the energy to go into detail on that note, but I really got driven away from their products.

ESET NOD32 to the rescue, and what a relief!

Funny thing, is some of the staff transitioned from Sunbelt to GFI, and finally ThreatTrack...but the corporate ethos, seems to be, 'we don't give a damn', now.

    CounterySpy was resource hug.
Vipre was "OK" due to its sensitive HIPS and good web filter.

It never had good detection rate in my experience.

Good Morning! I remember when Sunbelt sold out to GFI...Alex Eckleberry who was CEO...of Sunbelt brought on Professor Clouseau to assist with the development of the then fledgling Vipre. Real progress was being made when the good Professor abruptly left Sunbelt to return to Europe. Not surprising when shortly after Sunbelt was sold too GFI...and innovation was given a back seat. Also their Forum as Page 42 mentioned was in disrepair and trying to contact experienced and knowledgeable personnel became an exercise in patience. Today it's been relegated to a FAQ status...no meaningful interaction with actual personnel. I've given up on the new owners...and have replaced it with WSA...now there's a firm that takes customer service and communication with it's customer base to new levels. All for the Good. Sincerely...Securon

I quite like Webroot SecureAnywhere. I run it on one of my laptops where Norton kept coughing up a hairball during installation for reasons known only to itself. I installed a couple of freebie AV's to see if there was a general problem with AV installation on it, but it just seems to be Norton. I got WSA on a sale a few weeks ago so it was a no-brainer to use it.

Well, this is a thread about VIPRE, so those of you who wish to know about Webroot can create your own threads for that. I'm personally more interested in VIPRE itself right now. Anyone tried it in recent times?

he appearance of ThreatTrack Security’s VIPRE product in our tests has been something of a rarity of late, but in the past has been a regular participant with several good runs of passes.

Installation of the 2015 edition isn’t the fastest, but updates at least are speedy. The interface has had a facelift with boxy Windows 8-style tiling, and looks quite good; the control system remains limited but provides the basics. Stability was not perfect, with a number of crashes mostly happening during scans of large malware sets.

Scanning speeds were only OK initially but very quick indeed later on, while overheads were fairly low and also showed some signs of optimization in the warm runs. Our set of tasks ran through quickly, with lowish resource use.

Detection was excellent with good scores everywhere, and coverage of the certification sets was strong too with no issues to report and a VB100 award is well deserved.

It failed certification during av-test's last set. It regularly performs near the bottom of the pack in av-comparatives' real world test sets. IMO, it's not even worth considering when you look at uneven detection/protection performance, uneven actual system performance w/it installed and terrible support. And again, this comes from someone who had used the product since 2009.

The last experience I had with it was on my inlaws' PCs in October. They were experiencing recurring scanning service failures (YOUR PC ISN'T PROTECTED OMG) and NDIS-related bluescreens on two out of the three machines it was used on (Windows 7 x64 & Windows 8.1). Support was clueless and had no desire to have me pass along memory dumps or anything else that might help them figure out what was causing their product to fail so spectacularly (crashes were all VIPRE driver related). I don't have time to screw around with broken stuff, so I replaced it with another product on all three PCs.

Good Afternoon! ttomm1946! The only proof in the pudding is how it reacts on your system...as mentioned previously take advantage of the 30 day trial...and see if your satisfied with it's performance. It's the only way to answer and satisfy your interest in the product. Sincerely...Securon

I also used Vipre off and on for a couple of years and found it to be a smooth running A/V with great detection and useful customization features.
I also liked the free firewall Sunbelt offered.
Sadly (as already referenced in this thread), the company lost it's identity and focus once acquired by GFI and as the product became less relevant, I lost interest.

I bought two licenses in the past for my old machines as they were offered with a huge discount. I didn't get infected but they were slowing down the systems so much that I had to uninstall it before the license expiry date. Not a big loss mind you as it was scoring a bit better than MS with AV Comparatives. It is interesting to note that the two machines which had Vipre installed, have been without any AV since, and... no infection either (sandboxie and Shadow Defender have always been used though...).

Good Afternoon! Good Luck in trying to contact Nick! In my opinion it seems their Forum has retrogressed as opposed to improving it's accessibility and viability. Now in all fairness to Threat Track, their are other vendors that unfortunately are also providing third party forums too deflect concerns and critique away from the vendors principle website...it might be due too smaller headcounts...times are tough at a retail wholesale level these days worldwide...due mainly to currency and geopolitical events. My advice would be to call Threat Track directly at Customer service: +800-336-3166 (+727-324-0001). Sincerely...Securon

nice one, you have to untick Check Files When they are opened or copied (scan status-settings-Active protection) because this really slow down pc even with core i7 processor, maybe it is not very safe to do that but this is the only way i have find out to get Windows 7 and 8.1 in full working order.

many of the sites which review it and make it top and generally affiliates relying on a generous payout from the sites which they link to - those with the higher payouts tend to score better... I wonder why that is? ;)
