I see. Hopefully they've learned from this mistake then. Perhaps I'll give it another try in a month or two.

Actually the message in the lower right corner of the screen hasn't gone away. It goes away comes back goes away comes back. I don't get it.

    Here's the message:
    Windows 7
    Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine

It most definitely is a genuine copy.

    Yeah..

Ok, this unfortunate bad time at Panda has apparently passed.

Hopefully there are not too many systems that got bricked.

And just like when so many other companies have sent out bad updates, things will get better and move on.

Soon enough - hopefully - Panda will be noted again for good test results and not computer destruction.

    sub-forum where to post -- http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/

    Good luck.

Yeah, I think they caught it pretty quickly. I still have faith in it. Let's face it, it is better than MSE these days.

@daman1, Yes, I've only been running it on my Win 7 machine since Tuesday and it seems fine. I had MSE before and I was tired with manually updating it all the time (I have Windows auto-update switched off) plus its detection rates aren't what they were. I also ran Panda Free on my Vista laptop before I converted it to Ubuntu. I've never known anything lighter than Panda as an AV. I do have the 'Ask before neutralising a virus' set to 'on' however (by default it is off) just to be on the safe side. I used the Panda Cloud Free once when it was first released, but it suffered from false-positives then as well. As long as it can be set to not automatically quarantine anything suspicious it should be OK. I would never run an anti-malware app that automatically quarantined suspicious files.

MBAM also had a similar problem a little while ago.
Since then, I disabled its auto-quarantine option.

    This happen to me yesterday.

Well it seems to be fixed for me.

I knew I was not seeing Panda pop up after updates like you always do.
But something happen and I had to reboot (nothing to do with Panda) but it may of effected Panda.
Anyhow I then see Online Armor on a change to GlobalExe.exe and this you see happen now and then. I give it rights.
Then I see pop up so I got updates.

Then I open Panda and it works now the way it should. :)

Been running Panda Free for two days now and I got to admit that it is really light.
After it has been in PC for some time and learnt about applications you use, it does not re-scan and seems to be whitelisting stuff.

Also, turning off Panda News from settings keeps popups away. Surely my choice for installs where free AV is needed :) Tho, I am curious about new test results when they come in (AVC and AV-TEST).

Did a reboot and trouble and trouble went away.

This is not good if after updates it stops responding because if I need the protection to alert me of something but nothing happens then it's not protection me at all.

It's strange that with installing toolbar, Chrome blocks access to malicious sites without any extension/toolbar
    http://i.snag.gy/LNBjf.jpg

IE asks if user wants to enable/disable toolbar. Disabling Process Monitor has does not disable this web protection. Great :)

  20. I have Panda free on board for a while now and missed all this Panda trouble. I excluded Windows and Program Files, because I have a Software Restriction Policy for basic users and UAC set to block unsiged elevation. Panda only monitors executions from user space (which should not happen, without my 'right click run as admin' consent). I had put on same setup on my wife's Win7 (ultimate) laptop, luckily excluding UAC protected folders.

I did some testing with PUPs and my findings are strange.

    1. I installed Panda Free AV to VM and updated it.
    2. Collected/ran some PUP installers from Malwaretips forum.
    3. Panda detected only 3 of them (installers) but failed to detect PUPs that were installed.

I did Critical scan via UI - nothing found
Did scan Program files, nothing found

Then I rand Panda Cloud Cleaner which then detected many PUPs in Program files/registry.

What I think has happened is that Panda can't detect these files without legal consequences and that is why they've only added detection for PCC. I'd wish they detect these without need for PCC as it did really good job cleaning up the mess.

Do you have ‘Detect potentially unwanted programs (PUPs)’ checked in the UI (Settings, Antivirus, On-demand scans)?

Yeah, default settings. It's now checked by default in both on-demand and realtime.
