I got these detections a few days a go when I manually updated ClamAV...I chose to ignore them. Probably FP's.

i mirror this statement. the ease/lightness of this program and the bullet proof nature of it (anti exe) means i have reduced my time spent on researching security software and using that extra time enjoying life.

If you did experience slow Full System Scan in the last few days, please accept our apology.

We managed to clear the backlog and now the Full System Scan is running again. Yes, you shall be able to scan your whole machine in less than 1 minute again now.

If you don't mind me asking, how does it scan the whole system in less than 1 minute? I haven't used SecureAPlus before, so I am not familiar. Does it do an MD5 hash for each file and compare? Does it have something to do with new or unchanged files? I'm just trying to get an idea of how it achieves that. Thank you for your time. :)

Initial scan conducted just after installation takes quite a time as it whitelist all your executables as well as send unknonw files to cloud scan (knonw files are not sent, just checked against database).
After that, full system scan just do check if new or modified executable are known or unknown, and for unknown send it to cloud. Also it uses SHA256 for hashing.

For those who are not familiar with SAP, I'll try to explain its benefit.

Firstly, SAP is not anti-executable. I mean, it monitors not only exe, but all WinPE files and scripts by default. And you can add any file extension through script setting if you want. I confirmed it blocks unknown dlls when playing with java exploit. Also tho it was FP, it blocked driver (.sys) too (FP was about Keyscrambler driver, fixed in beta stage.)

Next, it comes with certificate based whitelist, with this feature and "Trusted Installer" option, you'll hardly to find it's too hard to use. Ofc you can edit trusted certificates to only allow vendor you trust, OTOH with "Restricted Application" you can minimize risk by automatic whitelisting. Any executable spawned by restricted app won't be automatically allowed even when it has trusted cert.

Third, tho you may think SAP is sth like application whitelisting with Virustotal uploader, it's not just VT uploader. A problem in most VT uploader is it only checks against known malware hash, or even when it upload file for latest scan result, it's just one time process. What if the file is detected after you uploaded it? SAP cares about it by continuous UAV scan. It means as soon as a file is detected in cloud, you will get warning. SAP continuously scan files in cloud by 12 AV engines, so it cares even after upload.

Also, tho currently it is not fully implemented and still on future plan, SAP includes Process Protector which blocks code injection. When they finally adopted application binding as well as logs and interactive UI for PP, it can prevent even advanced attack which don't execute malware but steal info directly from compromised process. SAP achieve this by restricting what program can access certain file types and blocking code injection. Currently they're focusing more on corporate feature, so full-featured PP and AB won't come soon but I'm looking forward it.

[Note: if you want to play with PP, make full backup before it as it may lock your system up depending on what process you protect. Also remember currently it doesn't have log nor popup so you can't know if sth is blocked.]

Version 3.3.2 on Windows 8 x32....Really pleased with this software. I have one question though, I'm using the offline AV version...I've been trying to use the complete scan and a message appears "File index service is not ready yet. Please wait..." But I wait for 10, 20, 30 minutes and nothing happens..The message remains.

    Edit excerpt from log....

2015-03-18 16:59:17 New hashes have been successfully uploaded to the internet. File: "C:\ProgramData\SecureAge Technology\SecureAge\Whitelist\to be transferred\20150318165916_L_bA@j1b-20796_whitelistmissing.txt".
    2015-03-18 16:59:17 Total number of hashes: 36140
2015-03-18 16:59:17 Number of recorded whitelist entries: 36140
2015-03-18 16:59:18 Wait for the server to process the information...
2015-03-18 17:01:22 Waiting for search engine.
2015-03-18 17:01:24 Search engine is not running yet.

We will release the fix for this issue. You can try again on our next release. The next new release should be some time next week.

Yes, we can help you to transfer your perpetual license to your newly formatted PC. Please send an e-mail to secureaplus@secureage.com, and let us know your old and new SecureAPlus ID.

Yuki is right in a way but let me explain it in a different way. As we have the lists of your executable in our database (please note that we do not have a list of your documents, only executables/applications), we are merely just performing SQL query against our virus database. All files known to us as malware will be returned in the query and will be presented to you. Currently this process took less than a minute. But we are seeing a surge of SecureAPlus recently. If you do it on the peak, you might encounter some delay.

This process will be done every hour (currently) and by doing this, we can assure you that you do not have malware in your computer. Always.

    @hendy @RLim,

142395 could not have explained it any better.

Maybe more of a how to use the app for the beginner would come in handy ?

    Regards.

I agree, Yuki did a fantastic job explaining in detail how SAP works. Thank you, Yuki. Also, thank you RLim for shedding some more light on how it works as well. I have a much better understanding now.

From an outside perspective (having not tried it before), it wasn't very clear to me how SAP functioned behind the scenes on the system as well as to and from the SAP servers. But now that I have a decent understanding of how things work, I have to admit it is quite interesting. Smart and efficient as well.

I think the right click or on-demand scan need improving. I decided to scan my C drive and its been nearly 3 hours now and it has scanned over 10000 files. I think it may take over 24 hours to finish the scan. This is by far the slowest scanner in the world. I think the scanning should be improved and its speed increased. I will leave it over night and see how it is in the morning.

Is ClamAV (offline engine) enabled? Are you using your computer for work during the scanning?
It should perform faster if the computer is idle.

yes I have secureaplus plus av is installed and no I left it overnight and this morning after 6.5 hours later only around 40000 files had been scanned and still going. I canceled it. This is awful. The slowest on-demand scan in the world.

by the way after all these time, it found one of the winrar files as malware. I think its false positive.

by the way I restarted pc and ran this second scan after canceling the first one to see if it can perform better. So my scan started at 3:27 am last night when I went to bed and 6.5 hours later it still was going at around 40000 file. This is a clean windows 8.1 64bit pc.

@taleblou You actually do not need to do on-demand scan to your whole machine/drive. It will take a long time to finish as the on demand scanning will check against our database in the cloud. Without doing this, actually SecureAPlus did a full/whole system scan every hour for you automatically. And that process usually completed within one minute. The on-demand scan should be used only to scan new files in your system, for example new downloaded files.

But we admit that currently this feature is still not perfect as the on-demand is not really on-demand per se. If Universal AV do not have information of the files, Universal AV will simple return unknown and currently this is shown as Clean in SecureAPlus. We are currently working on a version whereby the unknown files will be submitted to Universal AV for real on-demand scan. So this will be equivalent with VirusTotal, SecureAPlus will submit the files to Universal AV and wait until Universal AV complete the scanning.

So stay tuned for this version.

so what you say is not to use on-demand feature? Thats a downer for a security program. Also why when you say the computer get scanned every hour, did not pickup even the false positive that the on-demand detected? Anyway what I am saying is to speed up on-demand just like the other security apps. Also during on-demand , it should not check every file with the cloud, but those unknown or questionable should be checked with cloud afterward, like "herd protect" or like "hitman pro".

I think a BIG and important part of installing the AV component should be fast on-demand scanning. Otherwise its a big downer.

@taleblou I think you got a point on the on demand scan. We will think of a way on how to improve this.

@treehouse786 Thank you for sharing the video about SecureAPlus.

We have just a released a new version of SecureAPlus, version 3.3.3. There are a few of bugs fixed, and minor modifications. ClamAV engine is upgraded to version 0.98.6.
