Just tested with Norton Security with Backup and Mozilla Firefox 35.0.1. Loaded a website that Norton Safe Web considered bad (Warning rating). I was able to see the webpage for a split second before Norton IPS blocked Web Attack: Malicious File Download Request 27. Another second later or so and Norton showed the full page block ("Dangerous Website Blocked").

If I had Norton ConnectSafe configured, Norton IPS would have had nothing to do.

    Unofficially, yes.

Thanks for testing again. That seems the same behavior as addon version of TrafficLight or Avast Safe Online. Though such delay don't necessarily impose risk of successful exploit (IPS should work earlier as it works on low network layer, apart from notification), earlier is better and I wonder why it can't block blacklisted sites before it is displayed, though I know Norton don't use scanning proxy.

Adguard when I used it didn't block some malicious pages immediately, there was a brief delay after the page displayed for a split second. That doesn't instill confidence in me!

Norton has some annoying delay when blocking pages in Chrome, maybe it is a problem with Chrome extensions architecture.

They need to re-work this aspect of Norton so it's not functioning like this, and works regardless of the browser, and the extension doesn't enhance protection. It's one of the things that was bothersome to me. Norton 2015 is a GREAT product, but has a few little things like this I feel they need to improve. Trend for example works on any browser, as it examines Port 80/443 traffic regardless of the browser! (same with Avast!)
