Strange nobody seems interested in this. As for me it casts a lot of shadows over China's security softwares. Wonder how many backdoors and other tricks they put in their products in order to spy and steal sensitive information from the user.
I'm interested. Just removed 360TS and replaced it with Avira. Import substitution doesn't make your country's suppliers more competitive, it just restricts trade to the disadvantage of both sides. On the A-V front China has a good player with Qihoo, so why block Western suppliers? Silly policy.
Avast is not the only one. Many users are facing problems accessing official website / updating virus defs of lots of security softwares in different areas in China; on the other hand, official website of Malwarebytes has been blocked by China's GFW (connection reset). Well, Avast.co.jp is still available...
No one should misinterpret or close their eyes to a governing philosophy's intention. It is what it is.
I been growing ever more concerned about Chinese(and Russian) software. I stopped using 360TS months ago, and am starting to think I should remove Kingsoft Office also. Too bad, as they are both nice.
It's because they want to control, and spy on their citizens. The only valid reason they could have for doing this is if Avast was spying on China. I don't think that is the case at all. I wonder if the AV companies allowed to operate in China have to pay the government large sums of money. At the rate they are going they will be just like North Korea soon.
Quoted Cutting_Edgetech but below comments are not specifically toward him. It have been their culture in more than 2000 years which many western people miss when they talk about this. Such culture, tradition, and people's thinking can't be changed quickly. Unlike western feudal system, Chinese subjects had been directly served emperor, they are not belonged to regional lord or middle manager. Also unlike western kings and lords, Chinese ruler have been civilian from the beginning. So they've been controlled knowledge and info, and this is what made those ruler and emperor superior to others. One example of that is Chinese character, unlike western alphabet there are thousands of char which have to be learned as early as possible in childhood. Control and monopoly of Chinese char played measure role in early era of China ruling. From my eyes, Chinese Communist Party doing just the same thing. I don't say it's correct, at least not suitable to current international era, but I just want to give another perspective into this matter. Maybe more comments would be banned as political here, but I don't expect it changes within short period even if the ruler changed.
