@Feandur You can download it from Softpedia. Be careful to look at the options when you install it, as it wanted to download and install IObit's Advanced SystemCare.
OK..thanks roger_m, just downloaded from softpedia. And, especially, for the tip-off / heads up about the bundleware. cheers, feandur
roger_m: ...{my annotations}. If Revo Pro (the portable version from Revouninstaller.com will cost me nearly AUS$95) is not greatly better than IObit portable (current version 4.2.6.1 Rev2 is free at PortableApps.com), then I'll try IObit for now on x64bit systems. I'll stay with Revo free on x32 bit systems 'cause I'm use to it. cheers, feandur
Why users drop Revo Pro and go for other tools? According to your claims, everybody shouldn't use a different uninstaller (e.g. Uninstall Tool, Soft Organizer, Total Uninstall etc.), because Revo Pro finds more leftovers than any uninstaller. I have had a similar experience with the one described, HERE.
I wonder what is rev 2 because the official version is 4.2.6.1 of 9th January without further revisions. Perhaps it is a version being compiled by PortableApps.
Yes, I also don't like so stubborn views. Everybody has different OS, setup etc. so experiences will differ by machine. I don't say that Revo Pro is bad but my experience on my machine favours IObit over Revo.
Exactly! I tried Revo Pro, but it didn't work for me. Am I the only one, who abandoned Revo Pro, and went for another Uninstaller? Hell, no!
You are wrong. It doesn't matter what your operating system or setup is, Revo, or indeed any other uninstaller will work the same from computer to computer. As a developer I will say that it is simply impossible for your computer to favour any one uninstaller over another. In some cases IObit's uninstaller will find more leftovers than Revo. But, it has nothing to do with the computer or OS you're using, it is solely dependent on the software you're uninstalling. If you were to uninstall the same software on a different computer you would see the same results.
What do you mean when you say it didn't work for you? I've tested just about every uninstaller there is, and have found Revo to usually be the best. There are some exceptions to this, but, on the whole, Revo usually finds more leftovers than the others.
I never said that. But, usually Revo does find more leftovers that other uninstaller. If you were to test different uninstallers you would find the same. While I haven't had a look lately, in the past I've tested literally every Revo type uninstaller listed on download.com and Softpedia, along with ones I've found via Google searches. When I say Revo is the "best" it's based on spending a lot of time testing different uninstallers. But, as I've already posted here, the current version of IObit's Uninstaller does a very good job of finding leftovers, and it's free, unlike Revo Pro.
I have found that comodo program manager finds the most residual and cleans everything (more then any other uninstaller incl. revo). But it has not been updated for a while now and may or may not be win 8 compatible. I do not know. But from my tests, it has the best leftover cleaner of an uninstall out there.
I know you can get Revo for a decent price on there site but does anyone ever remember seeing it on sale from Newegg?
Revo Pro was buggy and it often crashed. Many times, Revo Pro found less leftovers than the ones found by Uninstall Tool, Soft Organizer, Total Uninstall etc. Not to mention that free uninstallers, like the ones offered by IObit and Wise, did a better cleaning/removing job than Revo Pro. Rare cases? Yes, but they did happened. My setup (OS and installed software) is different from your setup and other users' setup. As a result, Uninstaller A can be more successful in my setup than your setup and the other users' setup. Similarly, Uninstaller B can be less successful in my setup than your setup and the other users' setup. -You claim that the performance of an Uninstaller is irrelevant to the user's Setup. -You also claim that Revo Pro most of the time (with rare exceptions) finds more leftovers than any uninstaller. Since the performance of an Uninstaller is irrelevant to the user's Setup (according to you), every user should have stayed with Revo Pro as it -almost always- finds more leftovers than any uninstaller (according to you). However, there are many users, who bought Revo Pro (or just tried it), but finally decided Not to keep Revo Pro and replaced it with another product. Why such a Revo Pro failure happened to me and to other users since -the performance of an Uninstaller is irrelevant to the user's Setup and -Revo Pro finds (with rare exceptions) more leftovers than any uninstaller? *Everybody should have been greatly-satisfied with Revo Pro; the way you have been. *Everybody should have kept Revo Pro; the way you have done. and *Nobody would have replaced Revo Pro with another uninstaller. However, reality has been, by far, different...
Salutations, My picks of Uninstaller's combine together. I agree with Post # 74 Best Uninstall Tool for X64 BitsPortable version) For at least 5 PC's http://crystalidea.com/ Geek Uninstaller big brother is above! Everything Search Engine: http://www.voidtools.com/ Advance Uninstaller Pro: http://www.advanceduninstaller.com/ Moose's World Make it a great one that is today!
That has not been my experience, although obviously the amount of traces found will vary depending on what you program you are uninstalling. It is irrelevant. No matter what version of Windows you are using or what your setup is, no matter what computer you run the same version of an uninstaller it will use the exact same search for leftovers. Well there are an increasing number of excellent free uninstallers, e.g. Free Uninstall It, IObit Uninstaller and Geek Uninstaller which all work very well. With that it mind, it is questionable as whether is it work paying for Revo when you can get these for free. Although Revo is often better at finding leftovers than the competition, that generally doesn't matter. In the vast majority of cases just running a programs included uninstaller is all that is needed. Probably 99% of the time, the included uninstaller will not do a clean install and leave behind files and registry keys. But, it's important to realise that it is very rare for these leftovers to actually matter. An example of where a clean install can be very important is when uninstalling security software, as sometimes some components still get loaded and can cause conflicts with other security software. But, for most software, the leftover traces don't matter, so it's really no big deal if one uninstaller finds and removes more traces than another.
roger_m Agreed.... Once it's established that the programm is a quality one, then (IMHO) I feel it's less about the quantity and more about the quality ....so...let's change the thrust of this thread from "maximum finds" to "minimum errors". Using Revo free on x32bit OS's my attention is always on not breaking anything. I use moderate and check every reg entry carefully for the name of the app' I'm uninstalling. If it's not there, it (the entry) doesn't get a tick (to delete). So, can users recommend apps , and mention what uninstall 'depth' they use that they have had no false positives with....or, at least, didn't break anything significant? Please, the experience of Windows 8.1 users, in particular, would be especially valuable. cheers, feandur
Revo Free on Vista machine, always aggressive scanning and never had a fp. IObit Uninstaller on 8.1 64 bit machine, always aggressive scanning and never had a fp. Don't be afraid to use aggressive scanning in whatever uninstaller because you can check files/reg entries before deleting.
What? Isn't Tracing & Removing as much File & Registry Leftovers as possible -without causing system problems- the crucial element when evaluating Uninstallers? Doesn't matter? often ? Quite contradictory to
I didn't explain myself very well. Yes, what you said it right. My point was that because the leftovers usually don't matter, it usually won't matter too much if the particular uninstaller you are using does not find the most leftovers. Or, to put it another way, it's not necessarily worth spending money on Revo when there are very good free uninstallers. If they don't always remove as much leftover junk as Revo, it's probably not going to matter.
pegas: Thanks pegas, that's the reassurance I needed to move forward and give IObit a try out. cheers, feandur.
